Katherine "Trina" Rambo, age 86, of Daytona Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully at home in the arms of her beloved husband, surrounded by her loving family on Friday, August 29, 2025.
Born on July 6, 1939, in Cleveland, Ohio, Trina lived a full and joyful life rooted in faith, family and friendship. She graduated from Cleveland Heights High School and went on to pursue her passion for art. She studied at Gulf Park College in Mississippi, the Boston Art Institute, and the Cleveland Art Institute. Her love for art was a lifelong pursuit, woven into the way she lived, created, and nurtured beauty in the world around her.
When her parents purchased Dollar Island on Pushaw Lake in Bangor, Maine, Trina embraced it as a place for family togetherness, spending summers there since she was a teenager. Every summer she brought her three daughters there, filling their childhoods with swimming, boating, skiing, and family gatherings. Day trips to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park and sending off "Dream Boats" became treasured traditions.
Trina was deeply involved in her children's lives. She served as a Girl Scout leader, supported their 4-H projects with horses and goats, encouraged their creativity through theater with the Loveland Stage Company in Loveland, Ohio, and nurtured their spiritual lives through church and youth group retreats. She led by example, bringing her children along to deliver gift baskets to the needy through St. Vincent DePaul, instilling in them the values of service, kindness, and faith.
Trina supported her husband throughout his highly successful career, which, after several moves, led them to Daytona Beach, where he became Vice President of Brown & Brown and President of its subsidiary, McDuff Underwriters. She was truly the Wind Beneath His Wings.
At the age of fifty, Trina earned her degree in the Science of Nursing and went on to work as a Cardiovascular ICU nurse at Ormond Memorial Hospital for fifteen years before retiring in 2004. With retirement came new adventures. She and her husband took up scuba diving, completing nearly six hundred dives in destinations such as Central America, Indonesia, Australia, Papua New Guinea, and the Caribbean. Together, they enjoyed numerous trips all over the world, traveling to over one hundred countries across all seven continents.
Her hospitality and sense of community were unmatched. She and her husband hosted international visitors and dignitaries through the State Department, including the mayor of Cairo, Egypt. She loved fine wine and co-founded the Sunday Sommeliers Wine Club 21 years ago, which continues to this day. Since 2017, she and her husband served with the Citizen Patrol of Daytona Beach Police Department, where Trina especially loved working with children and fingerprinting.
Trina had many passions: she was an amazing hostess and an excellent cook, the longtime Queen Mum of her local Red and Purple Hat Society chapter "The Bodacious Babes," a dedicated gardener, a gifted writer, and an avid tennis player. She even earned a brown belt in martial arts. Above all, she cherished her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she poured her love, time, and creativity into making lasting memories with them.
Trina and her husband also shared a deep connection with Walsh University in Canton, Ohio, where he was the very first student enrolled. With their success, they became ardent supporters of the university and its programs. In recognition of Trina's nursing career and passion for the profession, she holds the honor of the Trina Rambo RN Dean's Chair of Nursing. Together, they also supported the creation of the Rambo Family Advanced Nursing Lab and the Bill Rambo Admissions Center, along with other initiatives, leaving an ongoing and lasting impact on future generations.
She was a friend to all, and those who knew her often called her "Saint Trina." To her family and friends, she was the perfect wife, mother, and friend – a woman whose warmth, generosity, and spirit touched everyone she met.
Trina is survived by her devoted husband, W.L. "Bill" Rambo, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and partnership; her daughters Tracey E. Towne and husband Kevin B. Towne, Lori Katherine Rambo, and Juli C. Waterstradt and husband Bret D. Waterstradt; her beloved grandchildren Eric M. Klingensmith, Ashley Katherine Rambo, Jodie Katherine McGowan, Alli Katherine Heck, Nathan A.W. Heck, and great-grandchildren Jaydin Elizabeth Wdowiak, Averie Katherine Rambo, Bree Anne Towne, and Winston Z. Klingensmith; siblings Margaret Griffith, Holly Beth Ocker, and Paul S. Ocker Jr.; and many extended family members and friends who will hold her memory close.
She was preceded in death by her father, Paul S. Ocker, her mother, Virginia A. Ocker, her sister, Virginia I. Ocker, and her nephew William Emerick Jr.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lohman Funeral Home, 1423 Bellevue Avenue, Daytona Beach, Florida 32114. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 12:00 noon on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, 4675 S. Clyde Morris Boulevard, Port Orange, Florida 32129, with a luncheon to follow in the Parish Hall, where friends and family are welcome to gather and share memories.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Pace Center for Girls, 208 Central Avenue, Ormond Beach, Florida 32174, or Pregnancy Crisis Center, 416 North Ridgewood Avenue, Daytona Beach, Florida 32114. Both charities were close to her heart.
Her Life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and her love will remain in our hearts forever.
