Katherine Elisabeth Sommerfeld

Katherine Elisabeth Sommerfeld, 88, passed away on November 16, 2025 at Bethany Home in Lindsborg, KS. Katherine was born on March 10, 1937 in Hillsboro, KS to parents Peter and Elisabeth (Funk) Jost. Following her mother's passing, Katherine was raised by her step-mother, Viola (Klassen) Jost. She was the wife of the late Robert E. Sommerfeld.
Katherine earned a Bachelor's Degree and worked as school teacher. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, Salina, KS. Katherine had a wide variety of interests. She enjoyed camping and the outdoors. She gave her time to community as a Big Brothers and Big Sisters volunteer. Additionally, Katherine enjoyed quilting and needle point. She was also passionate gardener, especially when it came to growing Irises.
Katherine was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother: Viola Jost; husband: Robert Sommerfeld; grandson: Austin Sommerfeld; daughter-in-law: Deanna "June" Sommerfeld; and 8 siblings.
Survivors include her sons: Mark Sommerfeld of Brookeville, KS and David Sommerfeld (Connie) of Assaria, KS; 2 grandchildren: Natasha and Jessica; and 8 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 22nd, at 10:30 a.m., at the First Church of the Nazarene, 1425 S. Ohio St., Salina, KS, with Rev. Jon Fillipi officiating.
