Mary Alice Mattson

Mary Alice (Hamilton) Mattson, Lindsborg, went home to be with the Lord November 18, 2025. Mary was born to Irvin and Alice Hamilton on March 17, 1931 on a small farm just north of Lindsborg, Kansas. After her mother's passing, when Mary was only 3, she went to live with Albert and Olga Shogren who lived in Smolan, Kansas. They loved and cared for her as if she was their own.
Mary was married to Paul Mattson on July 2, 1950. They lived in Smolan until moving to Lindsborg in 2006. Mary loved to play the piano and was pianist at the Smolan Covenant Church for many years. She also gave piano lessons and played at many musical events in the Smoky Valley area. She drove the school bus for USD 400 for many years. Mary and Paul traveled to Japan and throughout the United States visiting family. Mary was a prayer warrior and enjoyed reading and studying the Bible. She was a graduate of the Liberty Baptist College Bible Institute.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul; sister Pat Wagner, brothers, John Hamilton, Jim Hamilton, Tom Hamilton, and Joe Hamilton; granddaughters, Patricia Swenson and Christina Swenson; and son-in-law Conrad Swenson.
She is survived by her children, Janie Zweigle, Diana Swenson, Vickie (Dennis) Woodworth, and Butch (Hiroko) Mattson; grandchildren, Michelle, Jennifer, Rachel, Jonathan, Jessica, Lindsey, David, Taisei, and Ryosuke; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Mary's family would like to thank everyone at Bethany Home for the wonderful care given to her over the past 13 plus years. The family is also grateful for the care given to Mary by Gentiva Hospice. It was a comfort knowing that she was loved and cared for in the later years of her life.
The memorial service will be held at the Lindsborg Covenant Church on Tuesday, December 2 at 11:00am. Live streaming of the service will be available at www.lindsborgcov.org/. Interment will be at the Mission Hill Cemetery
