Randall John Mattson, affectionately known as "Ranman" to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2025, in Ocala, Florida. Born on May 26, 1964, in Royal Oak, Michigan, Ranman was a beacon of kindness and friendliness, whose spirited nature brought joy to all who knew him.
Raised in Madison Heights, Michigan, Ranman was a proud graduate of Sterling Heights High School. His sense of duty and love for his country led him to serve in the United States Navy, a period of his life that instilled in him a deep sense of pride and honor. After his service, he carried the discipline and camaraderie he learned into every aspect of his life.
Ranman was a man of many passions, with a particular love for his hometown sports. He was renowned as the biggest fan of the Detroit Lions, never wavering in his support, no matter the season's outcome. His love for the outdoors was evident in his fondness for fishing, a hobby that provided him with many peaceful moments and thrilling stories. Music was another source of joy for Ranman; he found comfort and excitement in the melodies and rhythms that accompanied him throughout his life.
He is survived by a loving family who will miss his presence dearly: his siblings, Laura (Jeffrey) Bissell, Mark (Katherine) Mattson, and Gail (Robert) McLaughlin. Ranman was a cherished uncle to Jake (Brea) Saylor, Ryan (Allyson) Bissell, Christopher (Meghan) Bissell, John (Margaret) McLaughlin, Satin (Saylor) Satterfield, and Vanessa (Jesse) McLaughlin, Markus Malzberg, TJ Mattson and Addy Mattson, as well as the doting great-uncle to Austin, Owen, Emmerson, Jaiden, Gracie, and Josie. His legacy of kindness and warmth will live on through them. Ranman was preceded in death by his beloved parents, John and Eileen Mattson, who instilled in him the values of love and family that he carried throughout his life.
Ranman's life was a testament to the power of positivity and the impact of a friendly demeanor. His absence will be felt deeply by all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with him, whether it was for a moment or a lifetime. As we say goodbye to Ranman, we celebrate the life of a man who was truly the embodiment of kindness, a friendly spirit, and a warm heart.
His memory will be cherished and kept alive by those who loved him, and the stories of his life will continue to inspire. Ranman's departure leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and the reminder to always face life with a kind heart and a spirited soul.
