Norman E. Mattson, age 87, of Girard, passed away peacefully on Thursday October 30, 2025, at Walnut Creek Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by his family.
He was born in Erie, PA on March 10, 1938, a son of the late Louis and Eleanor Golda Mattson.
Norman graduated from Tech Memorial High School in 1956. He finished his career as a Contract Supervisor at Copes-Vulcan after 48 years. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, and he had a special place in his heart for taking care of his daughter Bobbi Jo.
As a young man, he enjoyed racing go-karts with his brother George, working on cars and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycles. He was also very active in sports playing softball in various leagues, golf in the Copes league, racquetball and playing cards whenever he had the opportunity. He was an avid reader and enjoyed watching sports. He was also active in the community as President of Tri-Boro Boys Baseball for many years, served as a board member at St. John’s Lutheran Church and preparing taxes for members of the Northwestern Senior Center.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, George Mattson; his sister, Joyce Mattson; his daughter-in-law, Debra Mattson; and his grandson, Eric Mattson
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Cathy Hopkins Mattson; their two children, Bobbi Jo Mattson, Kristy Mattson, his five sons, Edward Mattson, James (Nancy) Mattson, Steven (Angella) Mattson, Daniel (Mona) Mattson and Timothy (Linette) Mattson; 15 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main Street East, Girard, on Monday November 3, 2025, from 4:00pm until 7:00pm and are invited to attend a service there the following day at 11:00am. Burial to follow at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
