Katherine K. "Kathy" Wapelhorst, passed away May 4, 2023.
She was born Sept. 19, 1943 and was the seventh of eight children born to Ivan and Gertrude Bailey Keen. After a short illness her mother passed away.
Kathy was then adopted by the James E. Murray family of Hutchinson. She attended St. Teresa's Grade and High School.
In 1964, she graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing in Wichita, Kansas. In 1964, she also married Ernie Wapelhorst of Colwich, Kansas. They had four sons.
They moved to Kingman, Kansas and purchased Kingman Processing Plant in 1972. They were actively involved in the Kansas State Meat Processors Association.
Survivors include four sons Alan (Sandy), Denny (Erin), Kent (Kristine) and Kevin (Lori); brothers and sisters Kenny Keen, Carla Harris and Karen Keen; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brother Max Keen, Phyllis McGilliveray, Madge Pauls and Jody Dolly.
Parish rosary will be 9:30 a.m., Saturday at the St. Patrick Catholic Church, Kingman followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. The family will receive friends from 8:30 a.m., til 9:30 a.m., Saturday at the Church. Burial will be in the Walnut Hill Cemetery.
Memorials may be made with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in care of the Livingston Funeral Home.
