Katheryn Sue Groves

Katheryn Sue (Greenwood) Groves, 67, of Cisco, has ridden her final trail. She passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on December 12, 2025 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, surrounded by family.

"Kathy" was born November 19th, 1958 in Gallup, New Mexico, to Alva and Mary (Riley) Greenwood. She was raised on the road as her family worked ranches and followed the rodeo circuit. Kathy grew up loving and living the cowgirl way of life.

Kathy was the mother to three children - Verna, Dessie, & Alva. Later in life she met and fell in love with Keith New. The two exchanged vows and made a life together in Cisco, Texas. Kathy enjoyed working cattle, riding horses, quilting and traveling. She wasn't afraid to speak her mind.

She had a bright smile. She was "Gran" to her grandkids and she loved spending time with them. Her love for horses and her cowboy heritage was passed on to her kids and her grandkids.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Keith. She is survived by daughter Verna Chadwick of Cisco; daughter Dessie (Josh) McCoy of Eliasville, Texas; son Alva (Doneil) Greenwood of Cisco; grandchildren Shell McCoy, Kyla (Aaron) Hamilton, LeeAnn (Justin Miller) Strawbridge, Joleen (Jason Tolly) Strawbridge, Briley Chadwick, and Katheryn "Katie" Strawbridge; brother Tommy Greenwood of Midland, Texas; brother Vernon Greenwood of Cisco, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

In accordance with her wishes the family will have a private gathering at home to honor her memory.
