Katheryn Anne Schembri ("Kathy") (4/12/1944 – 12/12/2024)
Age 80, of Fairfax, Virginia
Birthdate: April 12, 1944
Birthplace: Denver, Colorado
Kathy was the second oldest of nine children born to John Thomas and Mildred (Hose). She graduated from Cathedral High School in 1962. Two years later, while working as a secretary for the Maryknoll Fathers in Denver, Kathy met the love of her life, Anthony Schembri, who was serving in the Air Force. After a brief courtship, they married and lived in California for several years prior to moving to Virginia and completing their family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother John, sisters Joan and Ginny Ellen, her husband Anthony, son Trevor, and son-in-law William (Weeble). Kathy is survived by four of her children: Patrick (Michelle), Alexis, Virginia (Joseph), and Amanda (William). She is also survived by 14 grandchildren: Michael Doherty, Victoria Doherty, Kathryn Doherty, Joseph Doherty, Carmen Schembri, Sophia Schembri, Marianna Schembri, Mia Schembri, Angelina Summerbell, Grace Summerbell, Genevieve Summerbell, Kara Summerbell, Giavanna Schembri, and Christopher Schembri, who lovingly referred to her as "Sammy."
Services will be held on Thursday, December 19, at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Timothy Catholic Church in Chantilly, Virginia, where Kathy was a lifelong parishioner. A reception will follow at 11:30 a.m., at the International Country Club, located at 13200 Lee Jackson Memorial Hwy, Fairfax. Burial at Quantico National Cemetery will occur at a date and time to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
