With heavy hearts and profound sadness, her loving family shares the unexpected passing of Kathleen “Kathy” Sue Hinderliter, 74, of Indianapolis, Indiana, who passed away on April 28, 2025.
Born on September 19, 1950, in Indianapolis, Kathy was the beloved daughter of Betty and William Rawlinson. After William’s passing, Betty later married Robert “Bob” Johnston, who became a cherished stepfather in Kathy’s life. Kathy married the love of her life, Steve Hinderliter, on August 9, 1980, and together they built a life full of love, laughter, and family.
She will be remembered most for her deep and unwavering love for her children and grandchildren. Since becoming a Gaga, Kathy made it a priority to be present in her grandchildren’s lives—never missing an opportunity to visit, celebrate milestones, and create lasting memories with each of them.
Kathy was also a gifted wedding and event florist who owned and operated her own business, Kathy’s Kloset, for over 30 years. She had a remarkable talent for turning special moments into unforgettable celebrations, treating each client’s event with the same care and joy as if it were her own. Even after retiring, Kathy couldn’t stay away from the floral world she loved so much, continuing to share her artistry as a head designer on the 5th floor at Regions Tower. Outside of her work, Kathy loved traveling—especially cruising—and spending time at the beach in Fort Myers, one of her favorite places to relax and recharge.
Kathy is survived by her devoted husband, Steve Hinderliter, and her loving children: Kelly Johnston of Lawrenceburg, Adam Hinderliter (Rebecca) of Noblesville, Chad Hinderliter of Indianapolis, and Austin Hinderliter (Tricia) of Noblesville. Kathy is also survived by her brother, Mike Rawlinson (Trina) of Danville.
She was a proud and deeply loved Gaga to Ian, Liam, Aliza, Mickey, Addyson, Greylin, Evan, Kristen, and Cassidy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Betty and William Rawlinson, her stepfather, Robert “Bob” Johnston, and her granddaughter, Kirsten Johnston.
Her visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park North, located at 2706 Kessler Blvd W Dr, Indianapolis, IN 46228. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM at the same location.
Friends and family are invited to attend and celebrate Kathy’s life, share memories, and honor the legacy she leaves behind.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Kathy’s memory—supporting a cause that reflects the kindness and love she so freely gave.
