Gouverneur - Kathleen F. "Kay" McIntosh, 77, passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, while at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Lundy Funeral Home, located at 500 State Street in Carthage, NY 13619. A memorial service will be held following the calling hours, at 3:00 pm in the Lundy Funeral Home Chapel.
Kathleen was born on January 18, 1948, in Canton, to the late Lynn and Beulah (Hayden) Denesha, and graduated from Gouverneur Central School.
Kathleen married Ivan Shampine Sr. on August 7, 1965, at the United Methodist Church in Gouverneur. They were married for nearly twelve years before Ivan’s passing in 1977.
Kathleen was married to William G. McIntosh on September 28, 1979, at the United Methodist Church in Gouverneur. Kathleen and William spent 36 years together until his passing in 2015.
After graduating from high school, Kathleen went on to work a variety of jobs. She attended Chrishelle School of Cosmetology and worked as a cosmetologist for a number of years. She was a licensed notary public and a federal and state tax preparer, working as a treasurer at Cambray Mutual Holding Company, and Gouverneur Bancorp Inc., and eventually retired from Gouverneur Savings and Loan.
Kathleen spent many years involved in 4-H as a child. Growing up, she raised and showed registered Jersey Cattle and served as co-leader for a number of 4-H Clubs. This devotion followed her through adulthood, where she spent much of her free time raising, breaking, and showing her miniature horses. She also found enjoyment in sewing, knitting, and crocheting. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, family, and friends.
Kathleen is survived by her son, Ivan F. Shampine Jr., of Gouverneur, NY; her step-children, Sherry McGrath, of El Cajon, CA, and Christine Klock, of Theresa, NY; a sibling, Lynn (Pete) Denesha of Gouverneur, NY; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She is predeceased by her parents, Lynn and Beulah; her first husband, Ivan; her second husband, William; a daughter, Kimberly Devito; and her siblings, Marie Forbes and Kenneth Denesha.
