Kathleen Mathison Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Krause Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Inc. - New Berlin on Mar. 4, 2026.
Kathleen Ann LeSage Mathison passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026, after a brief illness. Kathleen was preceded in death by her loving husband and soulmate, Rick. Kathy loved being a Mom to Jennifer Mathison-Ohly (Chris), Alissa (Mike Krull), Eric (Karllen), and Tim (Dan O'Connell). Her role as proud "Gram" to Jack and Cate Ohly brought her immeasurable happiness. Kathleen was the dear daughter of the late Alfred and Genevieve (Welsh) LeSage.

Hers was a childhood of open spaces, huge vegetable gardens, chickens and geese in the yard, and summer days spent biking and playing outside. Childhood road trips in the backseat of her parents' car would take Kathy across the country and to ancestral sites in Quebec, instilling in her a lifelong love of travel and exploring new places. A last-minute invite to a sock hop in 1964 introduced her to the love of her life and soulmate, Rick. They married in 1969.

Kathy's pride and joy above all else was her family. Kathy and Rick raised four children together during their 36-year marriage. She loved her kids and grandkids endlessly and always encouraged and supported their education and passions. She also remained close with her siblings, whose love was a blessing. Kathy loved adventure and traveled far and wide with her family, always treasuring their times spent together, whether they were on a boat, a beach, her front porch, or her sunroom. Loyal, resilient, and caring, Kathy had a true moral compass and an infectious sense of fun.

Kathy loved photography, antiquing, reading, painting, baking, and sewing. Her gardening and interior design aesthetic were impeccable, and she had an exquisite eye for beauty. She was a dedicated volunteer, lover of history, music and the arts, and proud Irish American and French-Canadian American. Kathy's kind and generous spirit will continue to live on in all of us.

Kathleen is further survived by a brother Thomas (Margie) LeSage and sister Maureen (Marty) Lelinski, sisters-in-law Deb (Bob) Rydlewicz, Nancy (John) Trokan, Jean (Randy Busarow) Gulczynski, and many nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors. She was predeceased by her husband, Rick, her parents, brother and sister-in-law Pat and Karen LeSage, nephew Tim LeSage, sister-in-law Chris LeSage, and in-laws Jim and Ellie Mathison.

A special thank you to the staff at Froedtert Hospital who cared so well for Kathy in her final days.

Visitation from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Memorial Service 12:00 PM, on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at Krause Funeral Home, 12401 National Avenue, New Berlin, Wisconsin. Private Burial.
