The stars have dimmed with passing of Kathy Shea. Just knowing her made those of us in her orbit better. Kind, committed, loyal, funny, she was all of that every day. If she didn´t know the answer, she find it, if you needed help she would help you in any way, all the while, teaching you to help yourself. She was a role model and mentor to many. A fashionista, she was colorful in dress and personality, always ready to go along and take you with her! We met @ BCH in the mid sixties, she was a year behind me in school. Life took us different places, but we met again in the late nineties while working at the VNAB. She was recovering from breast cancer with dignity and grace. She approached recovery as a challenge, she met it head on. It was amazing to watch. We became good friends, working together to make the nursing experience the best it could be for both patients and nurses. We shared our ups and down on the job, in our lives, and she inspired me. I haven´t seen her in a few years and often think of that last lunch we shared. There was something about that day, I knew she was failing, it made me sad. I have thought of her often over these past few years, sending cards and notes of encouragement, and always with fondness. I am sure she was gracious and faced her struggle with dignity, she wouldn´t do it any other way. Kathy inspired me, made me better and I am deeply saddened by her loss. I know I am not
the only one. Allison, Jackie and Charles,I pray for you, and hope the lifetime of memories will help you find a way to peace. You know she expects you to!
