Kathleen Elizabeth Shimmel was born on December 26, 1952 in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, the daughter of the late Marvin and Mary (Sharpe) Marchman. She passed way Sunday morning, December 7, 2025 at Kindy Care Center in Freeland, at the age of 72 years. Kathleen was the loving wife of John Shimmel, who preceded her in death on March 9, 2015. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting. Kathleen also enjoyed planting her garden and observing the scenes of nature.
Surviving family include her sons, John II (Mandy) Shimmel, David (Sarah) Shimmel and Dillon Burgett; grandchildren, Brittany (fiancée, Mikey Comeau) Shimmel, Kaitlyn Shimmel, David Shimmel, Bianca (Brian) Economides, McKenna Taylor, Joseph Shimmel and Samantha Shimmel as well as many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Kathleen was preceded in death by her brother, Gerald Marchman.
Funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 11, 2025 at the Penzien-Steele Funeral Home, 608 N. Madison Ave. in Bay City. The family will greet visitors on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Kathleen will be laid to rest with her husband at Great Lakes National Cemetery at a later date.
