Kathleen C. Souza, 84, of Middletown, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully in the loving embrace of her family on August 24, 2025. She was the beloved wife of the late Francis A. Souza, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and companionship.
Born in Newport, Rhode Island on April 13, 1941, Kathy was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Mary T. (Moniz) Warner. Kathy lived a life full of compassion and quiet strength. She poured her heart into everything she did, and her greatest joy came from the people she loved. Kathy loved reading mystery novels and doing crossword puzzles.
Kathy began her career in banking, which led her to WT Grant. After its closing, she went on to Raytheon, McLaughlin Research, and later to The Preservation Society of Newport County. She found joy in her work and especially enjoyed the festive annual Christmas gatherings at Rosecliff.
Kathy welcomed all who came to her kitchen with warmth and hospitality. Her homemade quahogs and Portuguese kale soup were family favorites. When she was not cooking her home cooked meals, she was taking her family out for an ice cream treat. She also enjoyed thrifting and finding beauty and purpose in the overlooked.
Of all her accomplishments, Kathy considered motherhood her most meaningful and lasting contribution - and it showed in the way she loved her family unconditionally.
She is survived by her children, David Souza (Sharon) of Danville, VA, Gary Souza (Nina) of Sacramento, CA, and Patricia Mackin (Paul) of Middletown, RI, who were the pride of her life. Her love extended beyond her children to her treasured grandchildren - Jonathan, Eric, Robert, Trisha, and Cory - and to her sweet great-grandchildren, Penelope and Harrison, who brought a special light to her later years.
Kathy's deep family bonds also included her siblings, nieces and nephews; her sister, Carol Weiss; brother, Charles Warner; and her sister, Janet Sardinha whom she was preceded by in death, and whose memory Kathy held close to her heart.
Visiting hours will be held at Memorial Funeral Home on August 30, 2025 from 9-11am, followed immediately by a funeral service. Burial will take place at St. Columba Cemetery, Middletown.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association.
