Kathleen Thoman Obituary

Kathleen Marie Thoman
Born: March 11, 1953 in Chicago, IL
Died: November 13, 2025 in Naperville, IL
Kathy passed away on November 13, 2025, at the age of 72. She was in residence at The Auberge Memory Care in Naperville, Illinois at the time of her passing.
She was born on March 11, 1953, in Chicago, Illinois to Marjorie and Wilfred Mueller. She was from a great family of eight children. She is preceded in death by both of her parents and an older brother, James Patrick Mueller. Her surviving siblings are: Wilfred Mueller Jr. of Seattle, Washington; Margot Griffin, of Alpharetta, Georgia; Mark Mueller of Indianapolis, Indiana; Lawrence Mueller of Hoffman Estates, Illinois; Karl Mueller of Geneva, Illinois; and Brian Mueller of Hoffman Estates, Illinois. She is also blessed to have many beloved sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
Kathy had been married to William Thoman for over 50 years. They have two children: Joel Thoman of Framingham, Massachusetts; Jeffrey Thoman of Plainfield, Illinois; and a foster child Aaron P. Jahns of Springfield, Illinois.
Kathy received a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois where she met her husband. She and William were married in the summer after she graduated from college. She worked for Belden Wire and Cable Company in Geneva, Illinois where she was second shift supervisor at the research facility. She had a number of part time jobs that fit within her primary role as a mother, including jobs at Bank One and the Illinois State Police Federal Credit Union in Springfield Illinois. Her favorite and most recent part time job had her fill different roles for St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, where she served on the Parish Council, as an office worker, and as bulletin coordinator until her final retirement in 2021. She made many close friends and acquaintances in the Women's Auxiliary and was involved with numerous other volunteer activities at the church. She always sought out and loved the opportunity to serve. Whoever she met found a truly sweet person...and they also found a friend.
She was an avid traveler. She visited every state in the United States except for Alaska. She began her international travels on her honeymoon in Jamaica and has visited at least 35 different countries.
A Memorial Mass is scheduled for December 13th at St. Francis Xavier Church at 2500 Arbeiter Rd., Joliet, Il 60431. A Gathering will begin at 10:00 am in the church Narthex followed by a Mass at 11:00 am. Kathy would want all her friends and family to be there if possible. In lieu of flowers interested persons are encouraged to submit donations to Catholic Charities of Joliet, or Bags of Hope of Plainfield, Illinois.

Kathy was a very dedicated loving soul. It's not hard for me to picture her in God's embrace. Comfort to all her family and friends in this loss.

I really enjoyed our day together at the State Fair. Kathy was a friend that I looked up to for many reasons. A Christian friend and woman through her actions, her giving, her helping, being fun to be with and her smiles and laughter. I will think of her often, being grateful she was a part of my life.

I love my sister and I hate the disease that took her from us way too soon.
