It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kathleen Thornton, aged 88, of Philadelphia, who left us on Tuesday, June 10, 2025. Kathleen was a beloved mother, aunt, sister, and friend, whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of many.
Born on October 24, 1936, in Philadelphia, she grew up in Southwest Philadelphia and was a proud graduate of St. Clement's Grade School and Immaculate Conception Girls High School. Kathleen dedicated her career to serving as a secretary for 35 years in the Philadelphia Public School System, where she was admired for her professionalism and attention to detail.
Affectionately known as "Aunt Kit" to family and friends, Kathleen cherished summers spent in Wildwood with her family, creating lasting memories that will be treasured forever. She also had a deep love for animals, especially her beloved fur babies, Pip and Gus, who brought her immense joy.
Kathleen is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Kathleen Driscoll Thornton, and her brothers, Joseph (Kathleen) and Edward (Joan) Thornton. She is survived by her nephews, Ed and Tim Thornton, whom she raised as her own, along with Joseph (Deborah) Thornton, Kathleen Thornton Blankley, John (Yessica, Florence) Thornton, James (Monica) Thornton, Robert (Jennifer) Thornton, and the late Patricia (Thomas) Porter. She also leaves behind 11 nieces and nephews and 36 grand and great-nieces and nephews.
Kathleen's spirit will forever remain in our hearts, and she will be deeply missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral on Wednesday June 18th from 9:30 AM until 10:45 AM at the Church of St. Gabriel, Mohawk Ave, Norwood. Followed by her Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery.
