Kathryn E. 'Kate' (Davis) Boyce, age 96 passed away peacefully on Friday evening, March 17, 2023 at Franciscan Health in Indianapolis. She was a resident of Morgantown.
Kate was born March 2, 1927 in Hammond, to the late Victor F. and Helen H. (Lapping) Davis. She married the love of her life, Gerald G. Boyce on June 11, 1949 in Hammond. He preceded her in death on December 15, 1999 after 50 short years of marriage and friendship.
Kate was a 1945 graduate of Hammond High School and went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin in 1949. Kate loved being a mother and wife, but knew she could influence young hearts with her artistic skills. She was employed as an Art Teacher with Perry Meridian Schools until her retirement. Kate's aura naturally drew people to her. She always had a smile and welcome for anyone who crossed her path in life. Kate loved organic gardening, baking bread and anything artistic. She volunteered for 20 years playing the songs of the past for the residents of Morgantown Healthcare Inn. Kate often brought homemade treats and flowers from her garden to brighten the lives of the residents and staff at the nursing home. No one was more special to Kate than her grandchildren.
Kate had a genuine love for God and was a member of the Morgantown United Methodist Church for more than thirty years. She was a member of the Morgantown Book Club, a twenty-five-year member of the Indiana Historical Society, and a ten-year member of the Indiana Audubon Society. Kate was a mentor to many throughout her life. She was one of the original members of the Aerobics Group that meets at the Morgantown United Methodist Church and her favorite exercise was the grapevine dance.
Kate is survived by her son, Charles W. (Judie) Boyce II of Morgantown; grandchildren, Chad Boyce of Indianapolis & James Boyce of Morgantown; great grandchildren, Ava Boyce of Las Vegas, NV & Dadian Boyce of Morgantown.
She was preceded in death by her brother, John W. Davis of Columbus.
In keeping with Kate's wishes, she will be cremated and inurned at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown. Cremation services have been entrusted to Meredith - Clark Funeral Home Cremation and Personalization Center in Morgantown.
Memorial donations can be made in honor of Kate to the United Methodist Church, PO Box 226 Morgantown, IN 46160 or the Gerald G. Boyce Scholarship at University of Indianapolis, 1400 East Hanna Avenue Indianapolis, IN 46227.
