Kathryn Lee passed away on March 14th She was born Kathryn Rebecca Simmons on September 26,1926 in Quitman, Georgia and moved to Jacksonville as a teenager when her dad went to work at NAS. She met her husband James Inman Lee (Jimmy) a few years later and they were happily married 40 years until his death in 1989.
Kathryn was a devoted member of Lake Shore Baptist Church. She belonged to Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and the Red Hat Society. She was Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star and Past Queen of Daughters of the Nile. She worked 47 years as Treasurer at WW Gay Mechanical Contractor, Inc.
Kathryn loved to travel. She visited Australia and China and always wanted to travel to Egypt. She enjoyed family vacations at Indian Rocks Beach where Jimmy caught fish while she and Sherrie hunted for seashells. She was a talented seamstress and a really good cook. She and Jimmy hosted many neighborhood bar-be-cues and a party every New Year's Eve and where they served pancakes at midnight. Kathryn loved a good tailgate party where she always brought her much requested brownies and cheered for the Gators and the Jaguars.
She was very proud of her two grandsons and when they were little Santa always came to Grandma's house early on Christmas Eve and filled their stockings and they got to open one gift. Kathryn lived 98 amazing years, and she maintained her sense of humor until the end when she liked to fudge her age a little bit and say she was only 94.
Kathryn is survived by her daughter Sherrie Durban, favorite son-in-law Wayne, Grandsons Lee and Brent (wife-Alexandria), many extended family, grand-dogs Raven and Logan, and great-grand-dogs Jonas, Pixie and Ben.
To celebrate Kathryn's life services will be held in her honor on Tuesday, March 18th, 2025. Visitation begins at 10:00AM, service starts at 11:00 AM, with interment to follow in the Garden of Christus.
In lieu of flowers donations in her honor may be made to Community Hospice or Epic Outreach animal sanctuary
