Kathryn "Kay" Madsack (McLaughlin), a native of Sacramento, California, born on April 13, 1941, passed away on October 27, 2025, at the age of 84. Richard "Dick" Madsack, her devoted husband of 58 wonderful years was by her side. She was a loving wife, a devoted mother and grandmother, and she will be dearly missed by all. She leaves behind two children, Shelley (Garth) Eisenbeis of Elk Grove and Mike (Cathi) Madsack of Chico, four grandsons: Evan, Blake, A.J., and Seth; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. Her parents and her brother, Jerry, preceded her in death.
Kay attended Holy Spirit Grammar School and St. Francis High School, and graduated from Bishop Armstrong High School in 1959. She earned her bachelor's degree from Dominican College in 1963. Kay began her elementary teaching career with Rio Linda School District meeting her life long friend, Sharon. They joined CAC (Catholic Alumni Club) and met their future husbands. They continued to vacation and travel together: annual trips to the coast; later in retirement, cruises and travels around the world. In addition, Dick & Kay traveled to Australia to meet her lifelong pen pal. They also traveled to Ireland and met her cousin, who took them to visit their grandmother's childhood home.
Kay loved being a homemaker, staying home to raise her family. She relished baking and cooking for family, friends and neighbors. She was always the "hostess with the mostest"! She loved to host parties with CAC friends, 49er games, Gourmet Group, and holidays with extended family. If neighbors were sick, she was baking rice pudding and oatmeal raisin muffins for them.
Kay was her children's biggest cheerleader through school, sports, and music performances. As her children grew up, she returned to teaching in the classroom for about 10 years, followed by working at "The A+ Report Card" store until her retirement. But her proudest achievement has been watching her four grandsons grow up. They all enjoyed reading poetry and books with Nana, or helping Nana make her famous buttermilk waffles, her yummy English muffin pizzas, and her delicious beef noodle casserole.
Kay also loved gardening and pruning her roses, especially "Double Delight" pink & white roses. She was very fond of the Carmelite nuns and called them often when prayer was needed for a friend. She never missed a Sunday at church, and we know she is singing praises to God now in heaven.
In lieu of flowers, please honor Kay's memory by sending memorial gifts to:
