Kathryn McDaniel Obituary

Visit the Brown Family Mortuary - Santaquin website to view the full obituary.

Our sweet mother, Kathryn Ann Caine McDaniel, peacefully passed away surrounded by family on November 17, 2025, in Elberta, Utah.

Kathy, as she was known to all, was born on October 2, 1948, in Logan, Utah to Robert Preston Caine and Kathryn Ann Anderson. She joined her wonderful older sister, Carol.

Her family lived in Logan while her father went to school at USU. She returned often while growing up to spend time with her grandparents who she adored. She has many fond memories of her time spent going to the Bluebird for lunch and chocolates, spending time at the big yellow house and enjoying the many goodies grandma Clara would bake. Here she gained her love of chocolate and delicious breads and pastries.

The family eventually found their way to Durango, where she proceeded to attend school and graduate from Durango High School. While in Durango she met the love of her life, Marin Neal McDaniel, whom she was madly in love with her whole life. Her reunion with him was a joyous occasion seeing as he passed away in February of 2013. After their marriage and the birth of their first daughter, they moved to Utah landing in Elberta where they established their little home in 1972, raising all 6 of their children there.

Kathy loved her little home, she took good care of it, she kept it very clean and tidy. She would help in the yard, the orchard and the garden. Teaching her children the value of hard work and a good day of accomplished tasks. When the day was done, she loved to sit down and read a good mystery novel, we knew not to interrupt if her finger came up. She had to make it to the end of the paragraph before we could interrupt.

She loved her children and adored her grandchildren, she loved playing games with them, taking them to lunch, and watching movies with them and just enjoyed chatting and visiting with them. She also loved to talk, eat goodies, drive fast, go out to lunch but above all she loved spending time with her family, both in person and on long phone calls.

She had many wonderful friends, all of whom she loved. Her life long friend since she moved to Elberta and the one we remember most often would be “her sweet Kay”. They were the best of friends through all the good and bad, she loved her dearly.

She is proceeded in death by her sweet companion Marlin, her parents Robert and Kathryn Caine, her two sons in law, David Barnes, Glenn Gadbois and a grandson, Timothy Rainy.

She is survived by her children Lisa Barnes (David), Julie Gadbois (Glenn), Amy Choules (Reed), Christopher McDaniel (Tracy), Robin McDaniel, and Jennifer Rahm (Jake). Her adored grandchildren, Meagan, Jessica, Hunter, Shelby, Canyon, Afton, Trevor, Corbin, Adelle, Sam, Porter, Adeleine, and Matthew and 7 great grandchildren.

Services will be held in Elberta, Utah, Saturday November 22nd at 11:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with a viewing from 9:30-10:30 am prior to the services. Interment will be in the Genola Cemetery.
