Kathryn Lea Moore, known by all as Kitty, passed away peacefully at Annie Penn Hospital on Thursday May 1st surrounded by family following a sudden and brief illness. Kitty exemplified kindness and demonstrated a life well lived, full of family, friends and service to her church and community.

Kitty was a lifelong member of the Reidsville community where she attended school and later worked for many years at First National Bank and Dr. Kellam’s dentist office. Kitty’s faith was central to her and she lived her faith through her actions. She was an active member at Sharon Baptist Church her entire life and served on numerous committees, giving back to both the church and her community. In her retirement, she continued her volunteer work at the Rockingham County Pregnancy Center.

Kitty was known for her love of gardening, with amazing displays of daffodils and irises in the springtime. She loved planning her garden for the season, finding the right flowers, trees, and shrubs, and adding them in just the right places. She brought love of gardening into her retirement, helping found and grow Gladybranch Daylilies with her brother David and sister-in-law Joanne. She enjoyed finding the many varieties of daylilies, caring for them, and bringing them to the Piedmont Triad Farmer’s Market to sell each summer.

Kitty is preceded in death by her parents Lindsay Moore and Florene Carter Moore, as well as her three brothers David Lindsay, Claude Wayne, Jon, and Ernest Ray Moore. She is survived by her three sisters-in-law, Joanne Moore, Faye Moore, and Laura McClure as well as her nephew David Wayne and his wife Karen, her niece Phyllis Smith and her nephew Dwayne Zimmerman along with many great nieces and nephews who remember celebrating all holiday, special, and family occasions with Kitty in her house at “the farm”. Kitty’s favorite family member, Rosie her cat, will be well-cared for by family.

Kitty will be remembered by all for her ability to create and maintain lifelong friendships from all stages of her life. She was a great connector with people, and her warmth and generosity, helping anyone with anything, drew people to her. She was compassionate and kind while also possessing a very quick wit and great sense of humor which kept everyone laughing and having a good time.

Kitty’s life will be celebrated with a “Receiving of Friends” on Monday May 5th at Sharon Baptist Church at 10am, followed by the funeral service at 11am. A reception will be held for family and friends directly after the graveside service at Sharon Baptist Church.
