Kathryn Ann (Sweany) Tuttle was born to Richard V. Sweany and Helen R. (Klocke) Sweany on July 2, 1945, in St. Marys, Kansas. Kathy was a lively young girl who enjoyed playing basketball and various other sports as well as chasing her big brother Jim. She graduated from Manhattan High School and went on to attend Brown Mackie College in Salina where she met the love of her life Merle Tuttle.
Merle and Kathy were married in Manhattan, Kansas on July 26, 1964. They established their first home together in Lindsborg, Kansas. From Lindsborg, Merle and Kathy established a home in Beloit, Kansas. During their time in Beloit, Merle and Kathy welcomed their beloved children Lisa, Janelle, and Rex into the world. Kathy worked at a photo processing facility as well as helped Merle run the lumberyard in Beloit during their whole time there. She enjoyed bowling with Merle, and the entire family enjoyed many weekends at Glen Elder Lake as well as numerous family vacations around the country. Kathy was very active with Girl Scouts and was the den leader for Lisa and Janelle, while in Beloit.
From Beloit, Merle and Kathy moved their family to Eureka, Kansas. During the family's time there, Merle and Kathy enjoyed square dancing and watching horse races. After a couple of years, Merle and Kathy then moved their family to Pretty Prairie, Kansas where Kathy helped with Meals-on-Wheels for the community. During their time in Pretty Prairie, the family was very active in 4-H and made a lot of wonderful memories with their children while showing livestock at the county and state fairs in Hutchinson, Kansas. From Pretty Prairie, Merle and Kathy made their move to Salina, Kansas where they finished raising their family. While in Salina, Kathy held various positions with Gibson's, Taco Tico, and Taco Johns. As Merle and Kathy approached their retirement years, they were blessed with 6 beautiful grandchildren, and they relished their births and spending many memorable years watching them grow into adulthood. They also enjoyed watching rodeos, several trips to Branson, Missouri, and going to casinos.
Kathy loved to laugh and had a great sense of humor. She loved her family with all her being and was always very interested in all their lives and experiences. Merle and Kathy would try to always make it to all of their grandchildren's events, which gave them great joy. Kathy loved life and was always interested in other's well-being. After she lost Merle, it was very difficult for her the last three years, while bravely battling dementia. Kathy lived a full life, and her legacy is her children and grandchildren and the love that she always gave to each of them.
We will celebrate Kathy in the Spring with a family graveside service.
