Kathryn June Young, aka Granny to all who loved her, 76 born on December 13, 1947, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2024, at the Intermountain Hospice Center in Wheat Ridge Colorado. Katheryn had lived previously with her daughter and son-in-law prior to her passing.
Kathryn's parents were Ruby Frisbie and John Cowger, and she was born in St. Joseph Missouri. After Kathryn graduated from Faucett High School she waited a few years and then went to nursing school where she received her LPN license in 1982.
On July 2, 1965, Kathy married David Young and they had four children. Kathy and David had 41 years together. David proceeded her in death on September 9, 2006.
Kathy was an artist at heart. She loved flowers. All kinds. Spring was her favorite time of year when she could go outside and get her hands dirty. She would quilt, do all sorts of crafts and had a small jewelry business where she made handmade items to wear. But her love was painting and drawing. She was always creating something. Her greatest Superpower was making all projects she worked on harder than they needed to be. If something was easy, she didn't think it was good enough and would start over. She constantly had something in the works and several projects unfinished.
On June 16, 2012, she married James Melvin George. James and his family had been lifelong friends with the Young family. It just made since for them to marry after they both lost their first loves. When they married, Kathryn gained another daughter and three more amazing grandchildren, which she loved as much as her own. James and Kathryn had 10 years together. James proceeded her in death on September 3, 2022.
Kathryn's children, Angie and Tom Willis, Eric and Catherine Young, Mitzie Young, Erin Young (passed 7/19/77) and Jeanne and Terry Hoskins will miss her dearly. She was blessed with 11 Grandchildren. Jimmy and Jenna Willis, Christian Young, Laura and Allen West, Gaby and Richard Pak, Wesley and Riley Glass, Nathan Young, Jessica Glass, Daniel and Kristen Hoskins, Alisha and Lance Scholz, William and Kayla Hoskins and Jeremiah Young along with 8 amazing Great Grandchildren. Calvin, Mackenzie, Brynn, Alexandra, Benjamin, Atrus, Violet and Olivia. Kathryn loved each of these loved ones. Her favorite thing was to have her family around her and having a meal together with lots of love and laughter.
Kathy is survived by her sisters Jacqueline Graves, Peppi and Ken Cline. Her brothers Paul Ptomey, Roger and Mona Ptomey, Philip and Leann Ptomey and Wayne and Penny Stanton.
There will be a Celebration of Life at Tom and Angie's house on June 22,2024 at 4pm. If you need the address, please contact us and we will get that information for you.
There will be a Graveside service at the Mt Zion Cemetery in Gower Missouri on July 13, 2024, at 10:00am with a picnic to follow at Smithville Lake at the Smith's Fork East Shelter. All are welcome.
