Kathy Buchanan, born on October 18, 1954, in Orange, Texas, embarked on her final journey on January 1, 2026. A beloved figure within her family and community, Kathy’s life was a tapestry woven with love, resilience, and an unwavering passion for her interests.
Kathy was a dedicated member of the Nederland Avenue Church of Christ, where her faith shone brightly, and her warmth touched the lives of many. She found immense joy in raising her beloved pets, who were a testament to her nurturing spirit. Her household was a haven filled with love, where she enjoyed cooking, decorating, and gardening, activities that brought her much happiness. Kathy was also recognized as an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, a spirited supporter who cherished her team through all seasons.
Kathy’s proudest accomplishments were her devotion to her family and her deep love for her children and grandchildren, especially her beloved husband John Buchanan. She is survived by her daughter, Gena Dale and her husband, Adam, of Nederland; sons, John M. Buchanan and his wife, Shawna, of Port Neches; Brian P. Buchanan of Port Arthur; and Jacob C. Buchanan and his wife, Janell, of Port Arthur. The legacy of her love continues through her twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Kathy also leaves behind numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends, all of whom have been blessed to know her kind heart.
Kathy was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Buchanan; her parents, David and Viola Shivley; and her brother, Kenneth Shivley. She also mourned the loss of two grandsons, whose memories will forever remain in the hearts of her family.
Visitation will be held on January 10, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home, located at 1605 Avenue H, Nederland, Texas, followed by a funeral service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM on the same day at the same location. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves.
Kathy Buchanan’s life was a beautiful reflection of love, joy, and dedication. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her and will live on in the cherished memories of her family and friends.
