Kathy Kay Coon, 46, of Milan, Missouri, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.

Kathy was born on October 4, 1979, to Gary Dean and Susan (Smith) Coon. She spent her life in Milan, graduating from Milan High School in 1999, that year she started working at McDonalds in Milan until its closing in 2003. She then went to work at Sullivan County Memorial Hospital in Milan as a cook and Dietary Aide. While working at the hospital she reunited with Carson Weaver, and they have been together for the past 17 years. She worked at the hospital until 2009 when she had Collin and became a stay at home mom.

Kathy is survived by: significant other, Carson Weaver of the home; son, Collin Weaver of the home; siblings, Rosemary Coon of Kirksville, Missouri, Karen Coon of Memphis, Missouri, Larry Coon of Milan, Missouri, Aaron Coon (Summer) of Memphis, Missouri and Johnathon Coon of Brookfield, Missouri; uncles, Jerry Coon of Milan, and Clint Smith (Lynn) of Savannah, Georgia; brother-in-law, David Weaver (Tasha) of Stockton, Missouri; several nieces and nephews and close friends. Kathy was preceded in death by: her parents; brothers, Travis Coon and Jesse Coon; nephews, Jacob and Brayden Coon; and maternal and paternal grandparents.

Kathy enjoyed taking trips to the store with her friends, looking to add to her dolphin and lighter collections. She liked listening to music and playing games on her phone while watching the show Carpet Baggers. She was a supporter of the FFA and was an avid 49er's and Kansas City Chiefs fan. She also enjoyed painting and ceramics. She most of all enjoyed hanging out with her family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Ruschmeier-Smith Funeral Home in Milan is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to go toward her final expenses, c/o Ruschmeier-Smith Funeral Home.
