Kathy Jean Howard Cornett, 75, of Douglasville, GA, passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2025. She was born on October 8, 1950, the daughter of the late Gold Howard and the late Ola Howard.
Kathy lived a fulfilling life dedicated to her family, her passions, and her commitment to education.
Kathy's journey began with her love for literature, which led her to excel as a Literature Major. She not only cultivated her own appreciation for the written word but also shared her enthusiasm by teaching both high school and college students. Her impact as an educator resonated deeply with those she mentored, as she brought stories to life and inspired a love of reading in many.
As a devoted wife and mother, Kathy was known as the heart and soul of her family. She embraced her roles with grace and dedication, always putting her loved ones first. Kathy was often regarded as "everyone's granny," a title that reflected her deep-seated warmth and nurturing spirit. She had a particular talent for drawing, and she found joy in reading and writing, often finding solace and inspiration in the pages of books and the blank canvases awaiting her artistic touch.
Kathy is remembered as an angel among her family and friends, embodying kindness and generosity in all her interactions. Her family-oriented nature was a cornerstone of her life, and her legacy will undoubtedly live on through the love she shared with those around her.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, E. Curtis Cornett who passed in October of 2014; He was a long-time educator in Douglas County and well-known teacher at Fairplay Middle School. She is also preceded in death by her brothers, Donnie Howard and Larry Howard.
She is survived by her sons, Curtis Cornett and Kyle (Annette) Cornett; her brother Ronnie Howard, two grandchildren, Curtis Dylan Cornett and Mackenzie Cornett, and one great grandchild, Nolan Osborne.
In accordance with her wishes, she will be cremated, and placed to rest next to her husband back home in Kentucky.
Kathy leaves behind a profound legacy of love, creativity, and dedication to family that will forever be cherished by all who knew her. Her spirit will continue to inspire those who carry her memory in their hearts.
