A Life Fully Lived: In Memory of Kathy Dwight
Martha Kathleen "Kathy" Moore Dwight's story began in Dallas on January 13, 1951. But anyone who knew her would tell you her presence filled far more space than a single place or moment. Kathy made you feel seen, heard, and valued-whether you were a lifelong friend, a nervous new mom in the delivery room, or a young woman finding her footing in the world. Her superpower was showing up. And she did it over and over again, for so many.
In 1973, she married the love of her life, Larry. For over 50 years, they built a life of laughter, purpose, and unwavering devotion. Together, they raised Suzanne and Larry Jr., and when the time came, she embraced her greatest role: "GiGi" to her grandchildren, Lucy and Charles. Family was her heartbeat, and nothing brought her greater joy.
Born in Dallas, Texas, Kathy graduated from Bryan Adams High School and earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The University of Texas at Austin in 1972.
Yet Kathy's love wasn't confined to her family. She welcomed people into her circle with ease and sincerity, transforming acquaintances into dear friends and friends into family. For more than 50 years, she remained a passionate member of Alpha Xi Delta-not just as a memory of her college days, but as a lifelong mission to uplift and support women. Whether helping with recruitment, guiding alumnae, or quietly encouraging a young member through a tough semester, Kathy was there-dependable, wise, steady.
Her calling was nursing, but her true gift was comfort. Kathy didn't just deliver babies; she delivered strength, calm, and hope. She worked for 43 years at Baylor University Medical Center in Labor and Delivery. She received national certification in obstetrics and she guided thousands of families through life's most sacred moments. Her impact extended beyond the delivery room-she redesigned procedures, presented at national conferences, and mentored a generation of nurses. In 2016, she was honored as one of DFW's Great 100 Nurses, a recognition of what so many already knew: Kathy was extraordinary.
She lived with a generous spirit, balancing a career, family, and service with grace. A breast cancer survivor and advocate for causes like Autism Speaks, Kathy gave freely and frequently. She was active in organizations like the Daughters of the American Revolution, Dallas Lawyers Auxiliary, Atlasta Book Club, PEO, and Richardson Women's Club. She also loved cheering on her Texas Longhorns. Her calendar was full, but her spirit never felt rushed. Time with those she loved was always a priority.
Kathy's final year brought a difficult diagnosis-glioblastoma, a relentless cancer. Yet, she faced it as she faced everything-bravely, with faith and kindness. Even as her body slowed, her spirit remained vibrant. She laughed, she gave thanks, she loved.
On May 1, 2025, the world lost a radiant light. But Kathy's story isn't defined by that day-it's defined by every life she touched, every tradition she upheld, and every person who felt stronger because she believed in them.
She leaves behind her beloved husband Larry, her children Suzanne Erickson (Scott) and Larry Dwight Jr., her grandchildren Lucy and Charles Dwight, her brother Howard Moore (Lola), and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will carry her memory forward. She also joins her parents, Howard and Lettie Moore, and other cherished family members who welcomed her home.
The world is a little dimmer without her. But Kathy's legacy is one of presence-living on in every life she touched, every nurse she mentored, every woman she encouraged, and every friend who found in her a place to rest.
The family would like to thank her caregivers Babyna, Prisca and Beauty for the amazing care they provided daily and also for the care provided by the medical team of Faith Presbyterian Hospice.
A celebration of her life will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Dallas, 1835 Young Street, Dallas, Texas, June 20, 2025 at 11:00 AM.
