Mrs. Kathy Fayton Granby

Kathy Lynn Fayton Granby, the daughter of the late John and Pattie Fayton was born on July 19, 1955 and passed away on December 19, 2025, at the age of 70.

Kathy attended D.F. Walker School and graduated from John A. Holmes High School in 1973 where she was a member of Marching Aces Band. She graduated from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill in 1977 with Bachelor of Arts in Education Degree. In 1979 she received a Master's Degree in Special Education. She was a member of the Marching Tarheels and played the clarinet at many home and away games. Kathy's career in education began at D.F. Walker teaching exceptional children. She later taught at a school in Denver, Colorado. After moving back to the east coast she taught at a school in Portsmouth, Virginia. Her last move was to northern Virginia where she taught at Fred Lynn Middle School in Manassas, Virginia and the Unity Reed School in Woodbridge, Virginia before retiring in 2018.

Kathy at an early age attended Warren Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Edenton, NC. She later joined First Mount Zion Baptist Church, Mont Clair, VA.

Kathy married the late Will Granby on August 6,1983 and to this union they added two wonderful sons, Curtis and Kevin. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her granddaughters, reading, working out, sewing, taking care of her plants and baking her ooey gooey cake and honey bun cake.

Kathy was preceded in death by her husband, Will Granby and her parents, John and Pattie Fayton.

She leaves to cherish her memories and legacy: two sons, Curtis(Star) of Manassas VA and Kevin of Woodbridge VA; one sister, Patricia White of Edenton, NC; one brother, Charles Fayton(Brenda), of Virginia Beach, VA, two grandchildren, Alyssa and Cailyn Granby; two uncles, Thomas White (Elnora)of Glens Falls, NY, Melvin White (Altia) of West Hempstead, NY; nieces and nephews, Patrice Bell and Linwood White (Christina) of Edenton, NC, Philip Robbins (Joy) of Waxhaw NC, Cherita Adams (Paul) of Owings Mills, MD, Charlette Lawrence (Andre) of Virginia Beach, VA, Charles Fayton, Jr.(Leslie) of Chesapeake, VA and a host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
