Kathy Saczawa Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Agett-Lakjer Funeral Home & Crematory Inc on Mar. 25, 2025.
Kathy Saczawa, 74, of Greencastle passed on in Mercy House of Chambersburg. I only recently found out that our sister was a lover of horses, which seems to track with her disposition. Gentle, quiet, strong and stoic was our sister, Kathleen (Kathy) Saczawa, who succumbed Saturday, March 22, 2025, after a battle with cancer.
Born in Dallas, Texas in 1950, Kathy worked for many years at the Veterans Administration and the U.S. Postal Office retiring in 1998. She lived for a time in Southington, CT., Silver City, NM and Greencastle, PA. Kathy was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Saczawa, of Southington, CT. She was a fan of sixties music classics such as the Mamas and the Papas, Bob Dylan, Jim Croce and more artists too numerous to name. She loved music and taught herself to play guitar for a time. She loved her doggies and was always excited when they jumped up to join her for morning coffee.
Her best times were spent in the company of her sister, Judy. The girls spent many hours together playing cards, shopping, going to the movies, eating Mickey D's and 'people watching.' Judy was the stalwart Kathy relied on for the duration of her life, through her illness and the girls loved each other fiercely. Kathy always smiled, played down her struggles and lived her life on her own terms.
Kathy is survived by her loving son, Brian Benefield, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, sister, Judy Hovey, brother-in-law, Bob Bowers, of Greencastle, PA, brother, Michael O'Connell, and sister -in-law, Maria O'Connell, of Hamden, CT, as well as a cadre of good friends who knew and loved her.
A celebration of her life will take place at her home, Friday, March,28, from 3-5 PM.
