Edward "Ed" J. Saczawa Sr., 89, of Winchester and formerly of Northfield, MA., passed peacefully surrounded by the love of his children on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at St Joseph Hospital in Nashua.
He was born a son to the late Anna (Saczawa) Rutkowsky on January 2, 1934, in Springfield, MA. He was educated at Greenfield High School in Greenfield, MA., class of 1953.
After high school, Ed enlisted in the United States Army on September 15, 1953. He served with honor and distinction, receiving the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged on August 23, 1955.
In 1958 Edward exchanged vows with the love of his life, Rose M. (Dubriske). They were married in a simple service in St Michael's Church in Ashuelot. The Saczawa's had been married for 57 years when Rose passed away on March 31, 2015.
Ed had worked at Winchester Roll as a machinist for many years when he retired in 1999. Prior he had worked as a mechanic for 10-plus years at R.S. Roberts in Brattleboro, VT. He had also owned his own business called Eds Service and Repairs in Winchester from the late seventies to the mid-eighties.
Edward had many passions in life. He always looked forward to spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed traveling and loved to go on road trips. Many of which were to Florida where he and Rose bought a seasonal home. He loved to load up his boys and nephews along with their friends in his RV and head to the drag races. Ed enjoyed working on cars and his tractors and most recently his restoration of an old MG. Ed enjoyed the outdoors and going to all the fall fairs. He enjoyed Sunday coffee and breakfast with his Cousin Shirley Ware. When he wasn't working on a car or spending time with family you could catch Ed out mowing and maintaining the fields. When Ed was relaxing, he enjoyed his TV, he especially liked watching MASH.
Mr. Saczawa is survived by his loving children, James and his wife, Julia of Winchester, Karen Meleski of Winchester, and Edward J. Jr. of Fitzwilliam. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kristen Saczawa of Fitzwilliam, Jacob Saczawa of Keene, and Cole Saczawa of New Ipswich as well as cousins, and extended family and friends.
A private burial will take place later in the spring of 2024 in the family lot at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Northfield, MA. Services are under the care of Cheshire Family Funeral Home and Crematories, 46 South Winchester St. West Swanzey, NH. 03469. www.cheshirefamilyfh.com.
