Kathy Renee Nichols Swift, 55, of Reelsboro, passed away Sunday, October 19, 2025, at CarolinaEast Medical Center, after a long battle with medical problems.
Kathy attended Grantsboro Church of God, where she found great joy in serving others. She loved helping to plan church events, especially those involving the children, and was always willing to lend a hand wherever she was needed.
A dedicated school nurse for as long as her health allowed, Kathy was known for her compassion, skill, and gentle spirit in caring for others. She had a heart for people and a natural ability to lift others up, helping them overcome life’s challenges with kindness and encouragement.
Kathy was an avid reader and loved learning new things, but above all, she loved people. The phrase “to know her was to love her” perfectly captures the way she lived her life – generous, giving, and compassionate to everyone she met.
She was preceded in death by her father, David Barham; stepfather, Russell “Buddy” Willis, Jr.; and maternal grandparents, George Earl Bateman, Sr. and Margaret Austin Bateman.
Kathy is survived by her loving husband of 13 years, Vincent “Mickey” Swift; her mother, Margaret Rose “Rosie” Willis; her brothers, Tim Nichols (Brian Hunt) and Joshua Nichols (Autumn); sisters, Christina Spivey (Eric), DeOnna Walker, Melanie Barham, and Clarissa Boyd; her niece, Ally, and – special niece, Jenna, who lovingly called her “Bat-Bat” and treated Kathy like her second mother – her nephews, Joshua and Ricky; her stepfather-in-law and mother-in-law, Isiah and Mary Grice; sisters-in-law, Subrina Smith and Laveita Clay; and special friends, Shelby Knight and Caroline Kinkton.
A memorial service to honor Kathy’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 22nd at Grantsboro Church of God. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Patty Lewis for her dedication and compassionate care for Kathy throughout her illness.
