Kathy E. Vecchio, a resident of Yonkers, sadly passed away on August 2, 2024 at the age of 71.
Kathleen Ellen Anderson, affectionately known as Kathy, was born in New York City and raised in Rochambeau Gardens in the Bronx. She was the firstborn to Virginia and Eddie Anderson and, before long, became a big sister to Nancy and Jayne. Kathy loved life with her numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles and playing with friends from school and the neighborhood.
Kathy's passion for music went beyond a hobby; it was a significant part of her life. She was a dedicated concertgoer from a young age, from the thrill of seeing the Beatles at Shea Stadium to being a regular at the iconic Fillmore East. She always listened to WNEW-FM on the radio and built an evergrowing album collection. As a teenager, she was beyond heartbroken when her parents wouldn't let her go to Woodstock! Kathy shared her passion for rock music with her friends, sisters, and husband, Pat, and savored the experience of seeing the top bands perform at various venues throughout the decades.
Her career at Citicorp was not just a job but a testament to her natural intelligence and unwavering determination. Kathy began her journey at the bank as a page at sixteen, and her dedication and hard work led her to become the secretary to Citibank's first female vice president. She later took charge of the international finance department until her retirement, when she chose to focus on her role as a full-time mom to sons Michael and John.
Kathy and Pat Vecchio were married for thirty-seven years, and they raised two admirable sons who carry the values they instilled in them. Kathy's strong love for her family was evident in everything she did. She was an excellent cook who always shared recipes and dishes, surprising lucky recipients with treats such as "Cousin Peggy's Cheesecake," "Mabel's Apple Cake," yummy spinach pie, lasagna, and uniquely decorated homemade birthday cakes. She enjoyed summers camping on the Delaware River, fostering special childhood memories for Mike and John. She loved gardening her flowers at their camper in Callicoon and nurturing her houseplants at home. The Vecchios are an avid Yankees family, and Kathy was a devoted fan who never wanted to miss a game. She poured her heart into crocheting, generously gifting many beautiful blankets to friends and family. She meticulously collected and restored thousands of photographs from the entire family, ensuring that priceless memories would be preserved for generations.
She was compassionate and supportive to many but struggled to accept help from others, never asking for much. Thank you, beloved Kathy, for all you gave of yourself. We love you and will never forget the joy you brought us. Your absence will be deeply felt, and the void you leave in our lives will immeasurably remain in our hearts.
Kathy was the beloved wife of Pat. Loving mother of Michael and John. Dear sister of Nancy and Jayne (Jim) and sister-in-law of Rosemarie and Tommy. Cherished aunt of Paul, Andrew, Danielle, Eddie and Kristen.
