Obituary published on Legacy.com by Corbin and Palmer Shelburne Chapel and Cremation Services on Sep. 15, 2025.
Katherine Fisher, 88, passed away peacefully on September 13th, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 28th, 1937 in Burlington, Vermont to Marie (Bourassa) and Arthur Fisher. Katie loved God and family above all else.
Raised in Burlington with her 13 brothers and sisters, Katie graduated from Cathedral High School in 1955. Katie met the love of her life, Peter Fisher of Barre, on Church Street in 1959. Katie and Pete were married the same year and went on to raise 7 children during their 66 years of marriage.
Katie began her working life as a legal secretary and then devoted herself to being a loving mom and wife. She and Pete moved to several states during Pete's 35-year career with Sears Roebuck & Co. and Katie always found a church community in each location to create a foundation for the family. Katie loved her Catholic Faith, attended Mass regularly, served as a Eucharist minister, prayed with the elderly, delivered meals to those in need, and loved hosting the crowning of Mary.
Katie was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She cherished time with her family and friends. She also loved coaching her kids' softball and soccer teams, enjoying tennis with friends and cheering on the Red Sox.
Katie is survived by her husband, Pete, her children, Kathy (Larry) Layman, Karen (Ron) Jowdy, Peter (Hope) Fisher, Wendy, Brenda (Joe) Ziegler, Chris (Lesley) Fisher & Kelly (Marc) Holtman. She so loved her 20 grandchildren, Brittany, Ryan, Michael (Veronica), Courtney (Jesse), Kyle (Maria), Mari, Jeanine, Sean (Jessica), Chris (Morgan), Katie (Howard), Brian, Bobby (Taylor), Kristen, Matt (Karah), Mike, Danny, Jake, Molly, Brooke and Jack, and her 14 great grandchildren, Cory, Jaxson, Annelise, Nathan, Leo, Myles, Camilla, Lena, Demi, Eleanor, Ellis, Carter, Mary and Nate. She also leaves behind her siblings John Fisher, Patty Mahaney, Dick Fisher, David Fisher, Jeanne Lefebvre, along with her late siblings, Cindy Lovejoy, Mary Lou Messier, Bob Fisher, Babe Langlois, Joe Fisher, Nancy Akey, Jan Canole, Jackie MacKenzie. Also very special to Katie were her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Prudy and George Burnes. We would like to thank Katie's hospice nurses and caregivers for their incredible guidance and loving care, especially Wendy Fisher, Judy Johnson, Caroline Kufala and Dana Homer. Katie's family is grateful to Annie Roth and Fr. Dwight Baker who brought the Eucharist to mom faithfully on Sundays, bringing her joy through prayer.
