Katie Mae Herrell age 90, of Meridian, passed away at her residence on February 8, 2024.
Funeral services are going to be held at 10 A.M., Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Lawson Funeral Home in Meridian. Burial will be in the Meridian Memorial Cemetery. Rev. Judith Hatter will officiate. Visitation will be at Lawson Funeral Home in Meridian on Friday, February 16, 2024 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
Katie Mae Harrell was born on December 22, 1933 to Pearlie Mae Degrate (Hines) & Jessie Williams, in Ennis, Texas.
Katie left home at an early age. She held a variety of jobs including being an executive Tupperware representative for many years. Katie lived in Killeen before moving to Meridian, in 1989. During her time in Meridian, she served on the Housing Authority Board from 2005 until her passing. Katie was a member of the Meridian Cumberland Presbyterian Church and the president of the missionary society.
Katie is preceded in death by her mother, Pearlie Mae Degrate (Hines); father, Jessie Williams; brothers Rossie D. Degrate, Joe Degrate, Booker T. Degrate, Sidney Degrate and niece Shirley Parks.
Katie is survived by her sister, Jean Carter of Meridian; Simpson Degrate of Killeen; Jimmie Degrate of Lincoln, Nebraska and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Katie did not have any children of her own but shared a close relationship with Jean’s children and grandchildren including Wille Ray Degrate, Gloria Kelley (Otha), Dan Carter Jr., Desiree’ Kelley, Tauray Degrate, Kiara Carter, Destiny Kelley, Danielle Kelley, De’Marius Parks, Kaaliyah Washington, Tyson Kelley and Le’gynd Carter.
Arrangements were entrusted to Lawson Funeral Home, Meridian, Texas 254-435-2792.
