Katie Malone or affectionally known as "Blue Eyes" by her family and friends, 96, of High Point, passed away surrounded by family on February 1, 2026, at Hospice Home of the Piedmont.
Katie was born on January 10, 1930, in Moore County, NC, to the late Gilbert Wallace Sr. and the late Gean Foster. Katie was known as a hard worker. She spent most of her life working in furniture and textile mills, starting her first job at 16 and working until the age of 72. Katie fell in love with her late husband, Lennie, while writing letters to him on behalf of his mother while he was away at war. They made their life together in High Point, living on the same street she was born on for most of her life.
Katie will be remembered for her generous spirit. She was always baking her famous five-layered pineapple cream cheese or chocolate cakes for holidays, celebrations, or the local church fundraiser. Anyone who would visit Katie, would always be greeted with "Sit down and stay a while…" followed by a cup of coffee and some sweet treat or plate of food.
In addition to her parents, Katie is preceded in death by her husband, Lennie Malone; brother, Gilbert Wallace Jr. (Lacy); sisters, Hazel Mabe (Jeno), Peggy Brookshire (Ray); nephews, Steven Wallace, Billy Brookshire, Terry Brookshire and her nieces, Donna Goode and Debra Stevens.
She is survived by her daughters, Brenda Malone, Phyllis Lopez (Mike); grandchildren, Melody Barto, Joseph Lopez (Dustin), Nicholas Lopez (Paige), Cameron Lopez (Vitoria) and great-grandchildren, Fleming Barto (Emma), Sophia Barto and Oliver Lopez.
A funeral service will be held in the Archdale Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service on Monday, February 9, 2026, at 11:00, with Reverend Crawford Crenshaw officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service at Cumby Chapel in Archdale at 9:30.
Cumby Family Funeral Service of Archdale is honored to serve the Malone family at this time.
