Katie Elizabeth Tutwiler, affectionately known by her family as "BB", was born on June 6, 1941, in Kosciusko, Mississippi to the late Mr. Henry Jamison and Mrs. Georgiana Peeler. From an early age, Katie delighted in the simple joys of childhood including spending time with her siblings and cousins, soaking up new knowledge, and most importantly building the foundation of her lifelong faith in Jesus Christ. Katie's passion for learning led her to earn an associate degree in Business from Cahuma Junior College. She later answered a higher calling in education, devoting two decades to shaping young minds as a kindergarten teacher at St. Agnes Academy for Girls in Memphis, Tennessee. Never one to stop growing, Katie returned to school and earned her cosmetology license, proving that her creativity extended far beyond the classroom. She found joy and success in both careers.
More than anything, Katie loved being a mother. She was fiercely devoted to her two daughters, Frenetta and Michelle, and her love only multiplied when she gained the name "Grand" with the arrival of grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Her nurturing spirit was a gift she gave freely, not only to family; but to all who crossed her path.
Katie was a woman of strong faith and boundless energy. For more than 23 years, she was a devoted member of Light of Hope Presbyterian Church, where she served faithfully as an Elder, summer camp teacher, choir member, and Sunday school regular. Her contributions to the church were heartfelt and many. Whether she was leading celebrations as Chairperson for Church Women United or receiving the honor of Valiant Woman in 2017, Katie lived out her faith with quiet strength and generous love.
Outside the church, Katie could often be found with her hands in the soil nurturing her garden with the same care she gave to people. She had a well-earned reputation for having a "green thumb." When she wasn't gardening, she was tuned in to her favorite daytime talk and game shows, always ready with commentary and joyfully engaged in the stories of others.
On May 19, 2025, Katie was peacefully called home. She now rests with her beloved parents, Mr. Henry Jamison, and Mrs. Georgiana Peeler; two sisters; Palmetter Hannah, and Emma Kate Jamison Perteet; and one brother, Lawrence Jamison.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and faith in those who will miss her dearly: two devoted daughters Frenetta Beverly (Loren) of Austell, Georgia, and Michelle Baker (Stacey) of Marietta, Georgia; one sister: Clara Barton (Late JT) of Memphis, Tennessee; three brothers: Samuel Jamison (Late Thelma) of Olive Branch, Mississippi, Aaron Earl Jamison (Mary) of Memphis, Tennessee, and Larry Jamison of Georgia; three grandchildren: Bahjah Ali, Daylon Baker, and Shanell Baker; and one great-granddaughter: Valor Baker.
Her memory also lives on in the hearts of a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will forever carry her spirit with them.
