Katrina LaVon Pettypool

Katrina LaVon Pettypool, a beloved resident of Shelby Township for 48 years, passed away peacefully at her home on November 18, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was 66 years old.
Born on December 20, 1958, in Pontiac, Michigan, Katrina was the daughter of Hartel Arvid and Carol Eva (née Reed) Hansen. She was raised in Rochester, where she graduated from Rochester High School.
On June 25, 1977, Katrina married the love of her life, Craig Steven Pettypool, in Shelby Township. Together, they built a life filled with love, raising two children and celebrating nearly 50 years of marriage.
Katrina was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt. She was known for her loving nature, her problem-solving skills, and her ability to bring joy to those around her. While her children were in junior high, Katrina pursued her passion for cosmetology, doing nails for several years, though she always considered her most important role to be that of homemaker.
A creative spirit, Katrina enjoyed all types of crafting, including home improvement projects, painting furniture and cabinets, and creating scrapbooks and journals. She was also a dedicated member of Orchard Ridge Church for several years and maintained a strong faith throughout her life.
Katrina is survived by her husband, Craig Pettypool; her children, Christopher Pettypool and Kimberly (Steven) Schultz; her grandchildren, Michael (Ella Kimmel) Huskins, Madison Schultz, Zachary Pettypool, Elijah Schultz, and Nathan Pettypool; and her great-grandson, Hayden Huskins. She is also survived by her mother, Carol (Bob) McLavy; her siblings, Sheila (Walt) Kowalik, Ron (Luanne) Hansen, and Shelly (Michael) Miller; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and extended family.
Katrina was preceded in death by her father, Hartel Hansen, and her brother, Jason Hansen.
A celebration of life gathering will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2025, from 12:00 to 4:00 PM, with a brief service at 12:15 PM, at Shelby Gardens, 50265 Van Dyke Ave, Shelby Township, MI 48317.
