Kay Lenore Otting, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and dedicated community member, passed away on April 28, 2024, at the age of 92. Born on December 4, 1931, in Ida, Louisiana, Kay was the daughter of Rube George Fitts and Patty Lee Wynn Fitts.
Throughout her life, Kay made profound contributions to her community and touched countless lives through her kindness and service. She pursued a career as an editor and a secretary, showcasing her sharp mind and attention to detail, and found immense fulfillment in working for the International Prison Ministry in Garland, Texas. Kay's dedication extended beyond her professional life as she served on the City Council of Balch Springs, Texas. She was a member of Baptist churches in Mesquite, Dallas, and Mineola, Texas. Her passion for helping others knew no bounds, and she approached every task with unwavering compassion and commitment.
In her leisure time, Kay indulged in her love for family genealogy and cherished moments spent with her neighbors and friends. She found joy in assisting her husband in coordinating reunions for the people he worked with at Affiliated Food Stores, fostering bonds that lasted a lifetime. She was a natural born narrator, and she never shied away from her gifts- whether she was with loved ones or complete strangers. She was always connecting with people through the medium of storytelling in vivid, descriptive detail. This also carried over into her own personal life as she often wrote colorful and sophisticated poetry and personal anecdotes.
In 1955, Kay married the love of her life, Bobby Otting, with whom she shared countless cherished memories until his passing in 2016. Together, they built a beautiful family and a legacy of love and devotion.
Kay is survived by her loving daughters, Jana Otting, Jill Lumpkin, Alicia Rasbeary, and Debbie Havis; her seven grandchildren, Christi, Kelli, Clayton, Paige, Justin, Wendy, and Dee Ann; her three great-grandchildren, Rilynn, Kinsey, and Kailey; and her great-great-grandchild, Harper and numerous nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bobby Otting, and her brother, Paul Fitts.
Kay will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her unwavering love, generosity, and spirit of service will continue to inspire those whose lives she touched. Though she may no longer walk among us, her legacy of kindness and compassion will endure for generations to come.
"You have a very special place in my heart."
