Mr. Kay Warren "K.W." Smith, 83, of Columbia, died Thursday, September 1, 2022. Born in Columbia, SC, he was the son of the late Claude Heyward Smith and Annie Mae Fulmer Smith and married to the late Barbara Richardson. K.W. was a member of Aimwell Presbyterian Church and a veteran of the US Air Force.
K.W. graduated from Columbia High School in 1957 and then furthered his education graduating from Newberry College with a degree in economics. He spent much of his early childhood at Fort Jackson assisting his parents with a number of alteration shops. After the death of his father and the retirement of his mother, he and Barbara created KW Smith Enterprises starting several business adventures on and off the post. Their greatest joy was found in serving and doing the Lord's work.
He was a dedicated and loving husband (50 years) and father. He had a love for gardening, fishing, rocking in his rocking chairs and everything Clemson! He had a gift of storytelling and knew no strangers. This gift carried over as he shared his faith everywhere he went. His deepest love was his Lord and Savior whom he served in several capacities. K.W. was a role model for his sons and, he and Barbara provided a strong foundation for their family.
Survivors include his sons, Rev. Warren Todd Smith (Lou) of Morganton, NC and Brad Smith of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Warren, Wilson, Ahna and Noah Smith.
A service will be held at 3 o'clock on Tuesday, September 6th, at Aimwell Presbyterian Church, Ridgeway, SC with the Rev. Erwin Threatt and Rev. Todd Smith officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and the burial will follow the service in Elmwood Cemetery. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is serving the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Aimwell Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 146, Ridgeway, SC 29130.

I've known K.W. for more than 60 years and have many wonderful memories of times we spent together. When I attended his and Barbara's wedding, it was plain to see that they were the perfect couple and how much they loved each other. May he rest in peace and may perpetual light shine upon him.
