Kaye A. Schultz, passed away on the evening of Sunday, March 24, 2024, at St. Mark’s Living in Austin, MN. She was born on May 4, 1939, in Watertown, SD to Henry and Kathryn (Solem) Schultz.
Kaye grew up on a farm near Lake Norden, SD with her five siblings. She graduated from Lake Norden High School in 1957 and attended Dakota State College in Madison, SD, completing a one-year course in secretarial business. She worked in an office at Tech High School in St. Cloud, MN for several years. In 1965, she moved to Austin, MN accepting a position with Josephine Kremer, the Director of Elementary Education with the Austin Public Schools. Ms. Kremer, when she was going to retire, convinced Kaye to apply for the position as Assistant to the Superintendent of Schools. She was hired for that position and completed her B.S. Degree by attending night classes at Mankato State College, graduating Magna Cum Laude. Kaye served 32 years with five different superintendents and three different interim superintendents. She always enjoyed working with each superintendent.
Kaye was an active member of AAUW, the Business and Professional Women’s Association, the Library Board, and others. She served as the Chairperson of the Public Library Board when the new library was built in 1996. She was an avid reader her entire life, so this was a perfect position for her. She was a devout member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church since moving to Austin. Kaye and her sister, Maye, along with other family members enjoyed traveling to 35 foreign countries and many trips to New York City to attend Broadway Plays over the years.
Kaye’s parents, as well as 25 aunts and uncles and 5 cousins, preceded her in death. She is survived by her five siblings, Maye Schultz of Austin, MN, DedaRae (Richard) Graber of Austin, MN, Debra (Rick) Weber of Sioux Falls, SD, Russell (Henrietta) Schultz of Arlington, SD, and Dr. Ronald Schultz of Austin, MN; nieces and nephews, Stacy and Paige, Ann, Alison, Alyssa, and Autumn, Jonathan and Nick, and Katie; and several great nieces, nephews and many friends from Ethiopia who now live in Austin.
The memorial service for Kaye will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin with Pastor Mark Van House and Pastor Liz Erickson officiating. The visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held at a later date in Badger Cemetery, Badger, South Dakota. Memorials are preferred to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Austin. Worlein-Hoff Funeral Homes are assisting the family with arrangements.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
