Kaylan Shank Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Messinger Mortuaries- Indian School Mortuary on Jan. 12, 2026.
Shank, Kaylan Jean (formerly Kirk), went home to be with Jesus on December 23, 2025, after a three year battle with cancer. Born on April 17, 1989, alongside her beloved twin sister Kaitlin, Kaylan was just 36 years young. Kaylan demonstrated unwavering strength and grace each day, reflecting her all-encompassing love for Jesus and for all who knew her. To know Kaylan was an honor. She brought warmth to the room and a smile to your face.
Kaylan grew up in Tempe, AZ attending Horizon Honors High School ('07) where she played basketball for the Eagles varsity team all 4 years. Kaylan was inducted into the school's hall of fame last March in recognition of her athletic achievements. She had an impressive 41 points in a single game – ranking among the top 10-highest scoring games in Arizona girls' basketball history. She also holds the all-time leading scorer in Horizon Honors history with a remarkable 1,283 career points.
From there, Kaylan spent her freshman year of college at Northern Arizona University before transferring to Westmont College in Santa Barbara ('11), where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Exercise Science. Kaylan worked for the family payroll company since 2014, and for the last 6 years led the organization as their Chief Operations Officer. She was truly admired by staff and clients alike. Additionally, Kaylan began and led a cancer support group at her church.
Kaylan loved sports, was a loyal Phoenix Suns fan, a Swiftie and loved a good Carrie Underwood concert. Though, her greatest joy was being a hands-on Auntie with her nieces. She brought all the fun to playing games, building forts, cheering on the sidelines or watching a movie for the 100th time.
Kaylan is survived by her father, Carlton K Shank Jr. (Joyce); mother, Sherrie Summers; sister, Brittany Renelli (Chris); brother, Carlton K Shank III; twin sister, Kaitlin Henderson (Chris); cherished nieces Emily, Charlotte & Mia; and treasured labradoodle, Rey.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Compass Christian Church (West Auditorium) 1825 S Alma School Rd, Chandler, AZ 85286 at 1PM.
If you feel led, please send flowers, Kaylan absolutely loved them.
