Keith Pitts Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Chapel & Cremation Center - Murray on Mar. 4, 2026.
Roy Keith Pitts

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend

Roy Keith Pitts, known to all as Keith, passed away on March 2, 2026, following a brief illness. He leaves behind a legacy of curiosity, craftsmanship, kindness, and a deep love for family, nature, and life's many small adventures.

Keith was born on May 11, 1939, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Roy Dearing Pitts and Alice Nelma McCarty. He grew up there as an energetic and adventurous young man who seemed to know early on the kind of life he wanted to build. After graduating from South High School in 1958, he attended Salt Lake Trade Technical College, where he earned his electrical license and began a career he was proud of for decades. A master electrician, Keith was a devoted member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) for more than 65 years.

While attending trade school, a classmate once showed Keith a photo of his sister, Betty. That simple moment changed everything. After five years of dating, Keith married Betty Wright on October 23, 1964. They shared 62 years of marriage and built a loving family together, raising three children and delighting in the lives of eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Keith approached life as an eternal hobbyist, outdoorsman, and proud city farmer. He found joy in fishing, camping, birdwatching, rockhounding, jewelry making, and metal detecting. He loved animals of all kinds and over the years welcomed cats, dogs, fish, hamsters, a turtle, and chickens into his care. A stroll through Harbor Freight or Costco in search of the next great tool or hobby was one of his simple pleasures.

The outdoors held a special place in Keith's heart. He loved both the mountains, Utah deserts and red rock country, and the beach, and his adventures evolved over time-from tent camping to a camper, to a trailer, and eventually to a cherished cabin. There, he could often be found riding his ATV, happily observing wildlife and enjoying the quiet beauty of nature.

Keith was also a proud Freemason and an active member of the Salt Lake Masonic Temple No. 17 F&AM for 64 years, where he valued fellowship and tradition.

Keith is survived by his loving wife, Betty; his children, Chris (Kristine), Joelle (Dean), and Erin (Brandi); and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry forward his curiosity, generosity, and kindness to those around him. He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson Sam.

Keith will be remembered for his endless interests, and the joy he found in his family and passion for the things he loved to do.

A viewing will be held Friday, March 6, 2026, from 6pm – 8pm at the Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary 4760 South State Street, Murray, Utah. Funeral Services will be held, Saturday, March 7, 2026, at the Highland Lake Ward, 981 E Revere Circle, Salt Lake City, UT at 11:00am. Interment to Elysian Burial Gardens 1075 E 4580 S, Salt Lake City, UT.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff and team at Solstice Home Health, Hospice, and Palliative Care for the compassionate support and services provided to Keith and the Pitts family during the final weeks of his life.
