Elliot Frehner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Chapel & Cremation Center - South Jordan on Mar. 3, 2026.
Elliot Alfred Frehner

Elliot Alfred Frehner, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on February 28, 2026, in Murray, Utah.

Elliot was born on October 15, 1942, in St. George, Utah, to Randall and Grace Frehner. His family later moved to Murray, Utah, where he attended elementary school. At the age of twelve, Elliot moved to Riverton, Utah, where he lived on a farm and helped his father care for animals and manage daily farm work – experiences that shaped his strong work ethic and sense of responsibility.

He graduated from Bingham High School and faithfully served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Zurich, Switzerland, from 1962 to 1964. Elliot developed a lifelong love for Europe and worked at Kennecott Copper for several years so he could return and visit the places that meant so much to him.

In 1967, Elliot enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served in Vietnam in 1968 during the Tet Offensive in Quang Tri Province. During his military service, he began writing letters to his future wife, Claire. He sent her a Book of Mormon, which ultimately led to her baptism. Their correspondence blossomed into love, and they were married on October 4, 1969, in the Queens ward Chapel in New York City. They were late sealed for time and all eternity on October 13, 1970, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they had nine children and lived in South Jordan, Utah.

Elliot was a faithful priesthood throughout his life and served his church diligently, including as a ward clerk, a home teacher and as an ordinance worker at the Jordan River Temple for seven years. He especially loved family history work and spent many hours with Claire researching and reading stories about their ancestors.

In his youth, Elliot enjoyed playing baseball and running track. He was a lifelong sports fan especially loved football and basketball, cheering enthusiastically for the BYU Cougars. He retired in 2005 from Roadway Trucking after 30 years in the trucking industry. Elliot also earned an Associate's Degree from Salt Lake Community College in 1979. One of his most treasured experiences was a church history tour he took with Claire in 2007.

Elliot is survived by his loving wife, Claire Dunckelman Frehner his children Deborah (Greg) Dunn, Michael Frehner, Caroline Gunn, Rebecca (Phil) Sharp, Jennifer (Aaron) Radl, Daniel Frehner, and David Frehner; eleven grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughters Kathryn and Michelle, and his granddaughter Amanda.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Riverton Hospital and Intermountain Medical Center for their exceptional care and kindness. Special thanks are given to Dr. Eric Anding for his compassionate care and support.

Elliot will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for his faith, devotion to family, service to his country and others, and quiet strength.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday March 5, 2026 at 12:00 noon at the Highland 6th Ward Chapel located at 10115 So.
