In Loving Memory of Keith Schmitz
July 1, 1939 – May 30, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Keith Schmitz, who left us peacefully on May 30, 2025. He was 85.
Keith was born in Klamath, Oregon, to Waldo and Elsie Schmitz. From a young age, he had a deep love for animals and the natural world - a passion that stayed with him throughout his life. Whether it was exploring the outdoors or simply enjoying time in the garden, Keith found joy and peace in nature's quiet beauty.
He attended the University of Denver and graduated with a degree in Business Administration in 1963. His career in restaurant management began shortly after, and he went on to manage the well-loved Washington Street Station in downtown Kansas City for many years. Later in life, Keith took pride in serving as a safety instructor for JB Hunt, where his calm demeanor and patient guidance made a lasting impact on those he trained.
Keith is survived by his children, Mike and Karen Schmitz, and Teri Craner and Mike Hallahan; his grandchildren, Tiffany (Brendan), Michael (Lindsey), Matthew, Nikki (Phil), and Justin (Shay); and his great-grandchildren, Becket, Sully, Grace, Brielle, and Declan.
We will miss him deeply, but carry his spirit in our hearts forever.
