John Martino Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Alden-Harrington Funeral Home, Inc. on Feb. 11, 2026.
John Martino, 69, of Bonner Springs, Kansas, formerly of Ponchatoula, Louisiana. John passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at the Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. Memorial services to celebrate John's life are pending and will be announced at a later date.

Born in Kankakee, Illinois, on September 10, 1956, John's early life was marked by resilience. He moved with his family to Ponchatoula, Louisiana, where he grew up and graduated from high school in 1974. The loss of his father at the tender age of 14 instilled in John a deep sense of responsibility and a strong bond with his mother, shaping him into the dedicated man he would become.

John's professional journey began with a brief tenure in the petroleum industry, but his entrepreneurial spirit soon led him down a different path. While working, he diligently honed his skills in swimming pool installation, a sideline that blossomed into a lifelong passion and a thriving business. He proudly founded and operated the John Martino Pool Company, where his expertise and distinctive personality earned him the affectionate moniker "The Cajun Guy." His commitment to quality craftsmanship and customer satisfaction built him a reputable name in the community.

Beyond his professional life, John was known for his vibrant personality and unwavering loyalties. He was a passionate and devoted fan of LSU athletics and the New Orleans Saints, always ready to cheer on his favorite teams with enthusiasm. His love for his Louisiana roots remained a defining characteristic throughout his life.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Mildred Martino; his brother, Sam Martino Jr.; and his son, John Martino Jr. His legacy of hard work, dedication, and zest for life lives on through those he leaves behind. He is survived by his significant other, Nancy Jackson, of the home; his sister, Teresa Yarneau, of Kankakee, Illinois; his brother, Frances Martino and his wife Barbara, of Ponchatoula, Louisiana; and one daughter, Jackie Palmer and her husband Danny, of Las Vegas, Nevada. John also leaves behind two grandchildren, Mason and Madison Palmer. John Martino will be remembered for his steadfast spirit, his generous heart, and the indelible mark he left on everyone he met. May he rest in eternal peace.
