Kellie M. Terrell

Kellie McVey Terrell passed away peacefully on April 16, 2022, with her family and her two devoted dogs by her side. Kellie was born in the United States Naval hospital in Beaufort, South Carolina, and was a beautiful, blue-eyed baby girl. She lived many places in her young life including South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Mississippi, North Carolina, Georgia, and Sydney, Australia. She graduated from Northwest Guilford High School in Greensboro, NC in 1985 and attended Randolph Macon Women's College in Lynchburg, VA for one year. She transferred to North Carolina State University in Raleigh, married, and graduated with honors in Speech Communications. Her happiest moment was when her son Coleman was born in 1992! After two years she separated and moved to Greensboro, NC to be near her sister Shelley and to run an in-home daycare. A year later, she and Coleman moved to join her parents, Bill and Millie McVey, in Fair Oaks Ranch, TX. She earned her master's degree with highest honors in Speech Pathology from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio. On graduation day, she bestowed upon her parents a "Masters of Grandparenting" for all the love and support that they had given her and Coleman during her graduate school years.
Kellie worked in the Boerne Independent School District for twenty-three years as a licensed speech language pathologist (CCC-SLP). She helped hundreds of children of all ages improve their speech and communication skills. She was a mentor to many younger SLP's and was an incredibly loved and respected colleague and teacher. She was an SLP team leader and attended meetings and conferences to help clarify state and local rules and regulations for her fellow SLPs. They declared that she was their "go to" person when they had any questions and that "before there was Google, there was Kellie Terrell!" They cherished her professional expertise and her dedication to all students and families. They loved her dearly and she counted them among her closest friends.
Locally, Kellie was involved in many community activities and had friends far and wide. Kellie and her SLP colleagues enjoyed getting together to celebrate birthdays and special events and Kellie opened her home to friends on many occasions. Bunco nights were full of laughter, and she adored her Bunco friends. Kellie was very active with the youth sailing program at Canyon Lake Yacht Club and could often be seen helping run races on the committee boat or just having fun sailing her own sunfish with her dear friends. Kellie enjoyed traveling with Coleman on the Texas Youth Race Circuit and watching him race in regattas around the state. She loved her wonderful Oakview neighbors and would enjoy chatting and catching up with them as she walked her precious dogs around the neighborhood.
One of Kellie's many passions was traveling and one of her most memorable adventures was climbing to the top of Austria's Grossglockner Mountain at age sixteen! Some of her favorite destinations were Bald Head Island, NC, Cousin Week at Isle of Palms, SC, and visiting her best friend Clare in Sydney, Australia. She loved traveling with Coleman and introducing him to special people and places around the world.
Kellie clung to her faith in Jesus Christ during good times and hard times and was a member of Spring Creek United Methodist Church. She cherished the Sunday night Bible studies and very much appreciated the online church services when circumstances kept her home. Kellie loved well and was very well-loved. She will always be remembered for her kindness, her positivity, her excellence, her professionalism, her fun spirit, her sense of humor, her generosity, her faith, her sweet heart for animals, and her great love for others.
Kellie is survived by her parents Bill and Millie McVey; her son, Coleman Terrell and his wife Rogchelle; and her sister, Shelley Boehling; her brother-in-law, Eric; and their four children: Andy, Brock, Corrie Lee, and Daniel. Also incredibly important to her were her first cousins, Michael and Laurie Jorgensen and their daughters Amelia and Annabel; Eric and Teresa Jorgensen and their children Rachel, Sam, and Katherine; and Jeffrey and Mechelle Jorgensen and their sons, James and David.
A Memorial Service will be held at Spring Creek UMC 9200 Dietz Elkhorn Rd, Fair Oaks Ranch, TX 78015 on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at 2pm. We wish to thank Alamo Hospice and the Stephen Ministry of Spring Creek UMC for their wonderful care. We also wish to thank Kellie's devoted cousin, Dr. Michael Jorgensen, for being "on call" for our family for the last two years and for loving Kellie like a sister. We thank all of Kellie's colleagues, friends, and neighbors who sent cards, flowers, delicious dinners, and who supported, loved, and served Kellie and our family in so many ways during her illness of almost two years. Most of all, we thank God for sending his son Jesus to give us eternal life. In John 11:25, Jesus says, "I am the Resurrection and the Life. Those who believe in my will live even though they die " Amen, and thank, you, Lord! Thank you, too, Lord, for the gift of Kellie, our beloved daughter, mother, sister, aunt, godmother, cousin, colleague, and friend.
