Kelly Sue Shinabery, 55, of Decatur, was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 27, 2025. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Fort Wayne Indiana March 2nd 1970 to Don and Connie Buckmaster, her father preceded her in death while her mother still survives.
Kelly graduated from Heritage High School, Monroeville, Indiana in 1988 and married her high school sweetheart, Doug Shinabery in 1994.
Kelly obtained a degree in Elementary Education in 1993 and later earned a Masters Degree in Reading: Elementary Education. She was a teacher at Bellmont Elementary School in Decatur, Indiana where she taught for 29 years before retiring in May 2025. Kelly loved teaching and especially loved her students who often came back to see her.
Beyond teaching, Kelly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, reading, shopping, vacationing on a beach, going to concerts and live theater, singing and dancing.
Kelly is survived by her husband, Doug; 2 children, Mason and Payton; a brother, Todd Buckmaster (Heather) of Hoagland; and a sister, Tracey Buckmaster of Hoagland; Nieces: Jaden Buckmaster, Kaile Buckmaster, Rylie Buckmaster and Katie Graham; Nephews: Clay Buckmaster, Isaiah Graham, and Levi Graham; and a great nephew Cooper Buckmaster and a great niece Mary Beth Buckmaster.
Family and friends will be received from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 2nd at Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 3rd at The Bridge Community Church, Decatur, followed by a celebration of life tribute at 11 a.m., hosted by her favorite and only brother, Todd Buckmaster. She would have it no other way. Burial will follow the service at Monroeville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers preferred memorials go to Bellmont Elementary School or Dreams of Decatur -thru United Way.
Arrangements will be handled jointly by Divine Mercy Funeral Home of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville, Indiana.
