Ken Bray passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 13, 2025 at the age of 84 years after a long battle with Alzheimers. He will be lovingly remembered by by his children Heidi (Murray) Smith, Jeff (Karen) Bray, Kristl (Carrie) Bray, Natalie (Jeff) Ranson and Brittany (Bradley) Tew ; brother Brian (Yvonne) Bray, Grant (Erin Doyle) Bray, Janet Ganzer, Greg (Janet) Bray; 14 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and many more family and friends.

Ken was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta on Dec 28, 1940 to John Percival and Edna Myrtle Geneva (Ulland) Bray. He grew up in Medicine Hat and attended Medicine Hat High. He was very active in and passionate about sports through his entire life. One of his proud moments was being a part of the First BYU football team to win the WAC Championship. During his time at BYU he met his sweetheart Gretchen Redd and they were married in the Salt Lake City temple on August 21, 1968. After graduating with his masters degree, Ken and Gretchen moved to Calgary, Canada where they established their family and his career. He began teaching Physical Education and later moved to teaching Wood Shop which was another one of his passions. He spent countless hours coaching high school Football and Basketball and was dedicated to helping youth reach their highest potential both on and off the court.

In addition to being a teacher and coach, Ken found great joy in “getting lost” in the service of friends and neighbors. If ever he was missing, he was found serving others. He valiantly gave his heart and service to his church callings and was always the first one to step up and the last one to turn out the lights after the cleaning was done. His children learned to work along side him in the yard and garage as they planted, weeded, harvested and repaired things.

Ken's deep love for the Savior eventually took him and Gretchen to Toronto, Chestertown, MD and Salt Lake City, Ut where they served as missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While in Salt Lake he lost his beloved wife to cancer. He returned to Calgary where he continued to care for his friends and neighbors.

It is with deep gratitude, we thank those who lovingly cared for our Father in his declining years. We extend thanks to the staff at Wentworth Manor and Clifton House who cared for our Dad and express our deepest gratitude to Jeff, Kristl and their families for their loving service and sacrifice.
