Kenneth Gene "Ken" Cain, age 82, passed away on September 26, 2025, in Marianna, Florida. Born on April 21, 1943, in Geneva County, Alabama, Ken lived a life marked by dedication—to his country, his work, and those he loved.
Ken proudly served in the United States Army for nine years, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. During the Vietnam War, he was a member of the 188th Assault Helicopter Company, where he served as a helicopter crew chief and gunner. His service included special operations assignments throughout Southeast Asia. In addition to his time in Vietnam, Ken was stationed with Army units in Germany and across the United States. His military career reflected his courage and commitment to duty.
Following his honorable service, Ken returned home and built a successful business that became a cornerstone of his community. As the longtime owner of Ken's Paint & Body Shop, he dedicated more than four decades to serving customers at various locations—most notably at the Watson Street location in Marianna. Through hard work and perseverance, Ken earned a reputation for quality craftsmanship and dependable service.
Ken’s legacy extends beyond his professional accomplishments. He was known for being quick to lend a hand to family members or friends in need. A firm believer in the value of hard work, he instilled that ethic in those around him and led by example throughout his life. Ken also served as his wife, Vonciel’s caregiver during the last decade of her life as she battled cancer and later Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. He showed a true dedication to her and honored his marital commitment to serve her “for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health".
Ken is survived by his daughter, Donna Cain of Merced, California; sons, David Bishop (Sonya) of Niceville, Florida, Darrell Bishop (Pam) of Slocomb, Alabama, and Derick Bishop of Marianna. He is also survived by his sister, Linda Bremer of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; sister-in-law, Pam Pichard of Marianna; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; nephews; cousins; and many who considered him a second father.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Vonciel Cain; father, Marvin Cain; and mother, Nell Hamm.
Ken’s family extends heartfelt gratitude to the medical professionals at Courtyard Healthcare Center and Marianna Health & Rehabilitation for their compassionate care during the last year and a half of his life.
