Kenneth Calogar Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jun. 1, 2025.
Kenneth G. Calogar passed away peacefully Thursday evening, May
29, 2025, at Saint Elizabeth Health Center, just one day after celebrating his
79th birthday. He was surrounded by the love of his life, Charlene, his wife of
60 years, and all four of his children: Tammy, Priscilla, Christopher and
Alexander. His departure leaves behind a legacy filled with love, laughter,
and unwavering commitment to family and community.
Kenneth's life began in East Cleveland, Ohio where he was born on May
28, 1946, and his final home was in Niles, Ohio. Over the years, he often
called Cleveland, Springfield, Euclid, Marblehead, Garfield Heights and
Mayfield Heights home as each place was filled with memories, family and
community ties.
His journey with Charlene began in high school when they met at the
Ohio School for the Deaf. The moment he saw her, a red-haired spark of joy,
he knew his life had changed. From that moment on, he never looked back.
Together, they built a life filled with enduring love and resilience. They went
through so much during their 60 years of marriage, but their love for each
other never wavered and that love only grew stronger with time.
Together, they raised four children: Tammy (Rolf) Waschpusch, Priscilla
(Darrell) Doudt, Christopher (Heather) Calogar, and Alexander H. (Melissa)
Calogar. Kenneth was the proud grandfather to 12 grandchildren, 20
great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild with many more blessings to
come. He is also survived by his loving siblings: Sherrill, Sally and Jack who
shared in the joys and challenges of life alongside him.
Kenneth was known for his quick wit and signature corny jokes, always
delivered with a smile. He loved poker nights and card games, and never
passed up an opportunity to join a party whether there was a reason or not.
He took great pride in supporting his grandchildren by attending countless
sports games and events, always cheering loudly from the sidelines.
His love extended beyond his family to the Deaf Community, where he
was a beloved and active member. Kenneth was deeply involved in CAD
(Cleveland Association of the Deaf), where he served in many roles including
house manager and President. He also helped hosting many major events
including CAAD (Central Athletic Association of the Deaf), GLDBA (Great
Lakes Deaf Bowling Association), and various golf outings. His passion for
softball, bowling, and golf weren't just hobbies, they were lifelong
commitments, and friendships he built through them meant the world to him.
A passionate Cleveland sports fan, Kenneth stood by the
Indians/Guardians, Browns, Cavaliers, and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Like
many Clevelanders, he knew both the thrill of victory and the sting of defeat
but he never gave up on his teams.
Please if your father is still with you, hug him today as you never know
when it might be your last.
Kenneth, you are already missed by all of us. Your love, your laughter,
and your legacy will live on forever.
A celebration of Kenneth's life will be
scheduled and announced by the family. A private family service was held at
the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home, Niles.

These things are never easy to write, with a heavy heart I extend my sympathy to the family, Sherrill, Sally and Jack. I know that Kenneth was well liked and respected, he had great character and a big heart and he will be forever missed. Rest in peace my good friend ....
